Quote isn't working but I say trade McD in a package for a #1 center. Skjei Smith Holden/Staal/eventually Day/Graves is fine. You don't win in this league without a #1 center and we don't have one. - nyrangers9479

Shattenkirk literally just said he signed with the Rangers because of McDonagh:
“Ryan McDonagh was a big part of my decision,” said Shattenkirk, who is known to have spurned more lucrative offers from at least the Devils, Sabres and Coyotes. “My goal is to be a phenomenal defenseman in all aspects, and I think that Ryan McDonagh will help me achieve that.
“It was a major part of my decision to be able to play with one of the best.”

We should trade Skjei now too. There's a chance he's going to demand 7.5mm when he's 30 too. |

Rangers don't need another 3rd or 4th line center they need a number one center! Something the Rangers have not had in years. Duchene MacKinnon would be a huge boost to our offence. The issue is when to trade for one of these two. I think the time is right now! I would think one of our 3 hot prospects are ready now. Trading Mac would make perfect sense in order to pick up a number one center. There is no way we can win a Stanley Cup without a number one center. This would give Colorado a number 1 D man along with a prospect and or a pic and giving the Rangers a chance to win a Stanley Cup. |

Also need a #1 D pair to win a cup.
Understandably you need to give to get, trading our cap friendly #1 D for a #1 C is like cutting off half of your right hand to make the left stronger. No way we get the C we need without sacrificing too much. The way to go is UFA, but that ship has sailed. Unless Gorton can pull some magic trade that doesn't weaken another aspect of the team, I don't see a superstar center coming here. Also, how about we give Zibby a shot at a full healthy season before throwing in the towel? |

If you remove McDonagh from this lineup to add a #1 Center you make an even worse 3rd pairing than they have right now because everyone has to shift up. The need for a #1 Center is real but they would be weakening an already borderline abysmal 3rd pairing and neutering the 2nd pairing for a chance at having a number one center that may or may not work out.
They will target one of the impending free agent centers next year or perhaps trade for one later in this coming season when a team will be afraid to lose said player for nothing in the off season. They need to keep the important parts of this team together for right now.

Worst commercials are the HPV awareness ones. "mom? dad?"

Plus this:
"On playing next to McDonagh and the PP, "Ryan McDonagh was a big part of my decision. He is someone who I think is an elite defenseman and complements my game well. He skates well and that drives my game. I'm looking forward to the possibility of playing with him. The opportunity on the PP is a place where I am confident I can help this team and my goal is to come in here and be a phenomenal defenseman for this team and I think Ryan McDonagh will help me achieve that." |

this is the way this blog works
no matter much reason you offer that there is no chance the Rangers will trade Ryan McDonagh right now, there is gonna be a couple of people who simply will not let it go
so despite it being extremely obvious it isn't going to happen, get ready for the argument to be endless anyway |

Pretty much. I bet most won't even read the whole post but I figure I'll put it out there once.
At least some of the people understand you have to give to get and you can't trade trash players for another teams star talent.
"Let's trade Staal and a 1st for Trouba" or some other ridiculous proposal when they should know damn well that you *MIGHT* be able to just dump Staal with some other assets for another garbage player in return. Hopefully one that makes a lot less. |

Wonder if we'll be in on Alex Kerfoot or Will Butcher next month, also wondering why we haven't looked into Messier's nephew Luke Esposito, I know he attended an Oilers development camp a few years ago but can find any news on him, played 4 years at Harvard, seemed like a fit for an entry level deal
Edit: Esposito is attending the Wings camp |

I hope they can afford him. I know Nash comes off the books but I want him back on the team for the right money/term. |

If we sign JT I hope you realize Hayes is probably a goner, we have some RFA's and Mcdonagh coming up, have to leave money aside, I think he's gonna get some ridiculous offers |

So be it. Someone else can slot in there. Hayes might be someone special down the road but if you can get Tavares somehow you have to make sacrifices. |

I personally think JT re-signs with the Isles, but if the Rangers where able to get him and Hayes was gone, I wouldn't give two poops. I would buy Hayes a bag of kit-kats as a parting gift |

I think saying we are going to sign Tavares is more of a way that we just like to irritate Islander fans than really having any semblance of reality
I do believe the Islanders will trade him well before he'd reach UFA status, I do believe the team that trades for him will probably sign him before he becomes a UFA |
