Alright I'm all good with giving these young forwards a chance but with Parsons needing to take the next step in his career and him easily being our best goalie prospect the Flames might be in the mood to trade one.

I always circle back to the wild and Nino on this one. I believe the wild are short on goalie prospects, and I'm sure there not in any hurry to give him away. Not saying that's the trade but it sure is starting to look like we might need to let a goalie go and I believe that Gillies would warrant a first on his own.

What the hell do you do in this case? Goalies are so (frank)ing unpredictable.

I like Risto, part of the reason I don't want to blow remaining cap space is that I think we need to wait for the proper opportunity to arrive to snag someone who is a good fit not just for today but for the future. But does Risto play an intimidating game? Or is he a bit of a teddy bear?

It seems like Flames are definitely in win now mode. But maybe this year a guy like Poirier can crack the lineup and take 3rd line duties and learn the game. Go with Ferly and Versteeg taking turns on the first line. If guys start hacking JG put out Ferland to keep them honest.

Maybe in a year or 2 Poirier can fill that 1RW slot. Big if I know, but with all the picks traded away in recent years it would be huge to not deplete the farm.

An unproven backup named Martin Jones. IIRC

Lumping everyone together is getting pretty old. I remember when you were an edgy troll.

What more did Jones have to prove after 2 seasons as back up?
So youre suggesting that after 1 game in the NHL Gillies has the same value as a guy that spent 2 full seasons and 35 starts and was well established as a goalie ready to become a starter?

Ok, Bubba, Iguess its the same, no need to season Gillies anymore,he's ready to be a starter.

Goalies take a long time, that's why they are rarely taken in the first. The fact that he has been well groomed I'm sure is appealing to teams. He's a world junior gold medalist and won the NCAA championship hold a .93 save percentage. He said got one full year of pro behind him.

The point of my post was not to argue value with someone who sits on the internet all day. It's to talk about what the Flames might do with a potential problem (good one to have)

I suppose. Would Ben Bishop coming from St.Lou way back when be a good comparison?

Just pointed out when the last time a young goalie got moved for a 1st like you questioned. I have no horse in this race.

Gillies has the talent but maybe could use half-full season to get his momentum back. Between our AHL centres and the Doetzel-Aulie pairing taking the tough assignments in Stockton; it seems difficult for either goalie to find consistency.
