That's just the thing. There isn't consistently in any facet of his game. He misses games every year. He doesn't score consistently. And he really haven't stayed out of trouble long enough to say that he's matured and put everything behind him. Doesn't seem like the type of guy our front office would go after.

I can see him ending up somewhere like Pittsburgh. Similar to the Kessel situation in some ways. In Pitt he doesn't have to be the 1st, 2nd 3rd or even the 4th guy. They can afford to take that chance.

Yeah I hear you about your concerns with his game both on and off the ice. I hope he doesn't end up in Pitt! But thanks for the input.

Even if Sanheim starts this season in the AHL, he could be the first D callup when there's an injury and have a chance to keep himself in the NHL lineup, similar to Gostisbehere in 2015-16. Will have to pick up where he left off last season, though.

I've quietly pinned him as the "first chance possible" callup, assuming Morin makes it. Just my opinion

are you assuming Hagg makes the opening night roster as well? I was.

Things could change of course, but Hagg and Morin seem (as near as I can tell) to be the favorites right now to make the roster out of camp.

Hagg and Morin are more seasoned as well as further in their development then Myers and Sanheim. While I think Myers and Sanheim have a way sexier game and have a higher ceiling I think Hagg and Morin are more NHL ready for an 82 game season. With that said that was at the close of last season and a lot can happen between now and training camp.

To me the wild cards are Nolan and our shooting Swedish star. The forward positions are way more up in the air. I think once they figure out which D to go with they will stick with it unless injury or a young D falling apart. The forwards will be flipping around like crazy until they get on a roll. No way the hash out the starting line up in the first 2 or 3 weeks of the season. It may not get hashed out until the trade deadline. Lol

I agree but both Sanheim and Myers need to put on some bulk. Making improvement here but they are still a little thin.

There was a piece on TSN the other day about the best shooters in the NHL. I was surprised to see that Evander Kane puts more rubber on net at ES than anybody else, including guys like OV and Pacioretty.

That's pretty remarkable.

Getting ES shots on net is so important these days, and the Flyers definitely need more of that. Of course, you don't want a guy who will rock the proverbial boat, but E Kane has definitely been a consistent threat over the past few seasons.

I know he'd be at the top of the list, but I'd prefer to not let it come down to that: a fluke long-term injury to a regular leading to a call up. Who knows when that could happen, if it could happen......not that we even want that to happen. Ghost caught a career break, but it's just as possible he never gets called up without Streit going down. Plus Ghost only had 7 games played in the AHL and was coming off a major injury. I look at Sanheim's 80 games, with his 6'4 frame and good health, and think he's a different case.

I just hope they are keeping open the possibility of all 3 being in the lineup (I'm skeptical), because Hagg/Morin may have seniority, but I don't think they are any more "ready," and they weren't even as impactful at that level as Sanheim. His 2nd half was stellar and showed he was fully adjusted. And they have every bit as much to work on. A player is never truly "ready," they're simply "ready enough" because you can only learn and prepare yourself so much at that level. It all seems more a numbers and seniority game to me, more than Sanheim actually has any obstacle to overcome at the AHL level. Like if one of Morin/Hagg disappeared, is it a foregone conclusion Sanheim is a favorite to make the team?

If we're lucky, Manning will get plucked off waivers and AMac will be back wiggling his Richard at Phantoms fashion shows.

I don't want any veteran player who is not part of the future standing in the way of a young player. You still need depth. Not that he's irreplaceable but hoping Manning is lost on waivers is short sighted. Manning is a nice depth 6/7 cheap defenseman.

Interesting. Fact remains that only once has he put up over 45 points in a season. Something here doesn't add up.

No it doesn't. Just putting shots on net is not what matters. Putting quality shots on net within the flow of the offense is what matters.

Kane -- the Evander variety -- is a piece of poop person who is a locker room disease. Hextall would never ever ever acquire him. Pretty much that simple. Can't say I disagree.

This
Evander Kane is the antithesis of the type of player Hextall likes and he's ridiculously injury prone.

Here's a current weakness of the club. Don't give away too much for the sake of the future. There is nothing wrong with remaining competitive and reliant right now.
