Pretty absurd argument here:

1. The trade proposals include Murray and at least another player and prospect. Making the trade all about Murray is absurd.

2. This is a time when numbers lie, Murray on the ice plays much better than a 5th defensemen, especially taking into account the fact he has played hurt several different times in his career. The advanced stats are misleading in this case.

3. Duchene has been on Team Canada, great! Murray was on Team North America in the last World Cup and did a great job playing there. So to at least one person involved with the team, like the General Manager, he considered Murray much more than a fifth defenseman.

4. Earlier this year I had a conversation with one of the men on this thread, and I pulled out some stats on Duchene the last several years and another CBJ player, one Nick Foligno. The stats were remarkably close, considering that nobody thinks they are comparable players.

The gentleman's response was more or less 'yes, but Duchene is a game-changing player'. Really? Murray is a top pair defenseman, has been played there in the past, and suffered the same damage to his numbers Duchene has when they both played on bad teams. A new start in Colorado would be good for him, just like a new start in Columbus would be good for Duchene.

I'm sorry to be rude, but this whole thread is just trying to find reasons to justify the Avs GM's refusal to trade Duchene for an equal return. He's turning into the Danny Ainge of the NHL, and the value of his big trade item on the table is melting faster than an ice creme cone outside in Las Vegas.

Sakic is right. Why the hell trade for a 5th d-man? They'd be better off trading for Määttä +. I hope Duchene ends up in the Burgh to play with Phil on the 3rd line.

Anyone else remember the Hall for Larsson deal? Oilers received less than what was anticipated but the Oilers got exactly what they needed and Larsson was one of the guys who helped make Edmonton a playoff team, Talbot was another. People might say McDavid but even if he was healthy the season before, they still would have missed the playoffs.

That is the dumbest comment ever. Why would they keep him. They have a strong D that has someone as good as Murray down on the third pair, why waste the talent there when you can move him for a player that can fill a hole on your team? You realize that is why trades are made right? You give something to get something. You give up a surplus for a weakness.... It isnt rocket science. Eventually they will lose him because he is better than the role he is playing.
