Some of the UFAs that will be available in 2019 barring no extensions: Spezza, Couture, Duchene, Pavelski, Seguin, Panarin, Eberle, Skinner, Zuccarello, Brassard, Rinne, Fleury, Bobrovsky, Wheeler, Karlsson, Doughty, McDonagh, Ellis, OEL, and Myers

Give me OEL just so we get the Tanner blog.

OEL will become overrated to Tanner the second he leaves the Yotes, just like when Yandle went from a top 5 defenseman in the world to never being mentioned by tanner again when the Rangers got him

nvm OEL.

It's only 2 years until Karlsson is an UFA. Start that process now Gorton

Barring any re-signing extensions, in addition to Zucc & McDonagh becoming UFA's, as well as Buchnevich being an RFA (along with Deangelo) after 2 more seasons in 2019, how about among their current only 20 officially listed roster players, those who will FIRST become UFA's & RFA's during next summer?
2018 UFA's: Nash, Grabner, Holden (+ Desharnais & Pavelec signed for 1 year)
2018 RFA's: Skjei, Vesey, Miller, Hayes, (+ Puempel re-signed for 1 year only)

Those are 4 very important 2018 RFA's to re-sign, similar to Buchnevich in becoming one in 2019. Then you have in 2019, our 2 key UFA's in Zucc & McDonagh, who will not likely be willing to take that large of an overall monetary term discount for the team this time around, in their likely final opportunity to cash in big for a long term somewhere.
They have $8.4M available in cap space to re-sign Zibanejad, and acquire a needed experienced center, plus a gritty forward. But that cap space does not include any extra roster players they will carry on their roster, including their unsigned & recent #7 overall draft pick in Lias Andersson, with many feeling that he will be on it. Gorton has much more to worry about for this season, and next off season, prior to trying to fitting Draisaitl into the cap scene alone.

What part of the salary cap wouldn't work
- nyrangers9479

Before you think of them even fitting a $10M+ cap player in Draisaitl here, you must not be lazy, and do all the math yourself for each following season, for every roster players cap hit, term years' length remaining, plus the current cap hit buyout charges of those others already bought out. Then among those who will become UFA's & RFA's, you must also factor in the cost and term length per season, in estimating what they will be commanding in new deals to re-sign here. There will be some players who will not be re-signed, & some who simply would want to test the market elsewhere, thereby reducing the overall cap hit as well. This is all prior to you, in addition, having to worry about the CBA influence.
So if you want one player to take up about (+/-) 12 to 14% minimum of your team's cap space, you first better be certain that he either already has, or will be able to have FIT IN CAP WISE, the right mix of a capable supporting roster. Or else, you cannot complain on what Sather did here with Hank, for one.

This upcoming season really is huge for Vesey and Buch. If they can take the next step, the need for more impact forwards will be minimal
