There's a faint glimmer of hope out there for something better, but I don't see JVR alone, unsigned, fetching us a top 4 D.

I think there's more of a likelihood of a Dermott or Carrick pushing for more minutes, with Hainsey in a 5 role killing penalties, and having a defense by committee approach.

Having said that, the Pens won with a worse-looking D than ours, thanks to outstanding goaltending and Crosby/Malkin/Kessel doing their thang.

Reilly/Hunwick didn't look too bad in the playoffs. If Dermott or one of the swedes can be similar to Hunwick we should be fine. I don't think that's too much to ask.
