It's not that I'm impatient, it's that I'm not sure what the direction is that he is trying to steer the Pens. When he does acquire that 3C.. I think it'll say a lot. Hopefully the Reaves thing satisfied his toughness need and he can get back to acquiring skilled hockey players.

As a fan, why do you need to know everything?....so you can give your opinion on it?....so you can sleep better at night?...so you can go about your day?

Last time I checked anyone making the NHL is technically a "skilled player", it all depends on your perception. Reaves is skilled in his craft.

It pays to be patient. JR was able to completely change the team mid-season a couple of years ago and then went on to win the cup. Fans owe him the patience to get a quality 3C by the time the puck drops.
- madmike71

I'm with you, patience is key. We'll get a 3C and I am not too worried about it, as others have said it is July 5th.

As for the "draft fiasco", the odds of the player picked at 31 being an above average NHLer are slim, and who says they even draft Kostin there? They only moved down about 10 spots (too lazy to look up the exact amount). I think Reaves will be fine, as others have said he can skate and hit. How many points do you want your 4th line RW putting up? I think he adds a different dimension to this team they haven't had recently. And that isn't a bad thing.

Hunwick will be fine, and his cap hit isn't bad. He will provide solid D, isn't bad at moving the puck, and is a solid PKer.

The only move I would have liked them to make is bringing back Kunitz, 1 year 2 mil should have been matched. But I understand the thinking if they want some younger and fresher guys on the roster (Sprong, ZAR).

Take a breath, relax, and enjoy the back to back cup win!

Sure, if you're going to compare Ryan Reaves to some beer league hockey player off the street, of course he is skilled. But if you're going to compare him to his peers... he's not good.

You are just stuck in the world of graphs, charts and stats. Don't compare players, see a player as an individual...you know kind of like you are! Try it....you might enjoy it

I am as much pro-skill as anyone but I won't give a sh*t about a HERO chart when Reaves is menacing Erik Karlsson on the forecheck or pummeling Dubinskys face...

Oh I enjoy all of it. Watching hockey, playing hockey, reading about it, learning about the charts and graphs, learning about systems. I'm not stuck in a world of anything.

If Reaves is on the ice when Karlsson is on the ice, the Pens are gonna have a bad time.

Interesting quote from the PPG. What the hell could this mean? GMJR is being more cryptic than usual:

If anything, it seems the Penguins are taking steps to address their center position in other ways than simply making a deal.

“We’re doing some things here now that are certainly going to give us more depth at center,” Rutherford said. “As for acquiring somebody, I don’t know. I’m going to be patient on it.”

Rutherford did not care to elaborate on what that first sentence meant — whether the Penguins would sign a free agent or make a trade; he said he wanted to avoid any sort of gamesmanship.

He's not going to be able to catch either of them.

Complete non-issue.

What is with the negativity today? I can't say I love the moves, but for next season we are adding:

Sprongs, Reese, Letang, Hunwick

and losing

Kunitz, bonino, hainsey daley

Every guy we are adding is much better than what we lost (With exception of bonino). Yes I'd wish we made some savvy moves, but realistically we are adding a lot internally.

- sditulli

Pens website had both Sprong & Reese playing in the A for at least half a season if that's anything to go by.

With Tanger, feels like we 'add' him every year.

Well it would be just silly to think he would hit 1st & 2nd line guys when he's playing bottom 6. Pretty sure he might get an opportunity or 3 to hit certain individuals when he needs to though - let's hope his radar is hot those days. Going to be interesting......

That he hasn't hit many players more than once aka he isn't this physical tough guy you are hoping him to be.

He's junk and serves no purpose on an NHL ice surface.

Wanna know why the Blues never went far in the postseason?

They kept putting junk players like Reaves on the ice. 1 point in 36 playoff games...
30 years old. plays 8 minutes per night. Gets a point every 8 or 9 games in the regular season.

Hell he got 25% of his career points last season. He had 13 points.

He scored as many even a few more than our 4th line guys from this years cup team.

I'm not saying he's going to be fantastic, but I'm open to see how he goes. Any guy that tries to better his game & is already in the NHL is a good sign. Time will tell.

Can I see the same chart for other players?

I mean what's the baseline here? What does Tom Wilson's spreadsheet look like?
He certainly inflicted a lot of pain on Penguins players. Doesn't have to be star players to have an impact.

Kunitz was our most physical forward, who did he hit more than twice? Were they as impactful or as pain inducing as a hit by Reaves? I can tell you I did not enjoy watching the Pens play St. Louis as I was just waiting for Reaves to catch Guentzel with his head down or Letang admiring a pass or Dumoulin scurrying back to retreive a dump in.

This stuff has an effect, and it's not as simply quantifiable as how many times hes hit certain players...
