This.

Well that's your opinion

And on the other end...
there's the GM who built back to back Cup winners... smart guy, no?
What about Toronto's braintrust who signed Matt Martin last year?
Or even the dipsh!t running Edmonton...

I'm sure there's other examples as well

You wanna dismiss decisions made by successful organizations?
That's your perogative I guess

The only thing I can't wait to see is when Crosby pulls the poop he'll still pull what the excuse will be now. It used to be "justified" because he was abused so much and no one stood up for him. Now that he's got a bodyguard he's got no excuse for the stick work/embellishment/straight up diving.

Meh... zero f#cks given over here

Not saying you're wrong, I just don't care

We don't know yet. If we knew, these decisions would be a lot clearer.
- sbroads24

Maybe we do though?

Not saying we can see the future...
but you'd think we'd have tried to acquire such a defenseman this offseason

Or at the very least, know what it would cost to do so

With the defense group Pitt just won with...
does J Botts even think it's necessary to bring in a high priced defenseman?

Again...
lots of ways to build a winner

So that means he is impervious to bad decisions?

I guess that's your prerogative

I didn't say they were "smart" though

But the facts are...
in 2 of the 3 cases I stated, they were made by ppl that are regarded as smart

So did smart guys make bad decisions?
Maybe, maybe not

And it'll be hard to statistically show one way or the other
How do u quantify Crosby's piece of mind?
Maybe he asked for a "Lucic" type player be HE feels it'll get guys off him
Wouldn't that be enough reason to make a move?

What do we think Jack comes in at? My guess is $8M-$9M depending on term. More if more term(takes him through more UFA time hence the higher cost), less if less. I think the team probably wants a max deal term wise. It makes the most sense.

its certainly possible, but they could have found a 13th fwd in FA. i just find it odd they had to pay actual assets to acquire this particular fourth liner.

I never said that... did I?

Isn't the mental side of the game important as well?

Just bc u can't statistically quantify something...
doesn't mean it's a bad decision

Sorry, neither the use of, nor the correct spelling of the word "prerogative" are allowed on HB.

I pretty much said that paying a 1st was stupid

However...
it does show that they felt it was important

Reaves is also a pretty good skater for a "goon"
He's more like a Foligno than he is a Andrew Peters

Regardless...
the price was dumb
the idea was understandable

Hopefully they put Reaves on Crosby's wing and he struggles to follow him and attacks anyone that gets close

Personally, I think that's overpaying for his RFA especially when he hasn't lit it up 5 v 5 yet

UFA years would be like half his contract at 8 years.

It's gonna be tough to keep it down though
Word is that Johansen is about to get something close to 8mil
And he's averaged 14goals & 46.5assists the past 2 years

Kuznetsov got almost 8.

Eichel is getting 9+ now, probably more if he waits a year.

I'd love an 8 year 72 mil deal.

Don't think so.

It was the "we can't draft Keller because he's small" debate that went on for pages.

- sbroads24

I had no role in that debate. I got no problem with 5'10". 170 pounds scares me.

Ok, I'll let it slide. You won't be "band" this time.
