Isn't it even more impressive then that Kane & Reinhart still produce on roughly the same level as Eichel ?

Or would u say it's more of a fluke?

- jdfitz77

his goal production is pretty impressive even with an above normal shooting percentage.

i think jack was a bit unlucky if anything. generated a lot of good chances and many were wasted, i suspect that number will go way up on a good team.

TSN had Laurence gilman (cap guy) on their FA show where he broke down the ideal cap value at each position and he had 1c at 7.5-8 mil. That's what our 2c is at and we expect our #1 to make close to 9 or 10. The difference is going to have to come out of somewhere and I'm guessing it won't be the defence.

I'd say with a better defense,
that u could expect the forwards in general to have better numbers

Pittsburgh and Chicago have won how many of the last 10 cups, 5 or 6?

How many tough guys do they have?

- sbroads24

It's not the old tough guys, but as JB said team toughness and you can't have all just finesse players like Darcy tried to build repeatedly. You do need some skill with bulk up front

there's a different way to build a consistent winner than smart cap investment?

Sam vs Kane is a no brainer IMO.

One scores goals like a 1st liner when healthy, passes like an AHL'er, plays defense like a bottom 6 player.

The other is 4 years younger, cheaper, and is a low end 2nd liner across the board right now.

Sydney Crosby has bulk, is strong and adds some to your team toughness because he's a bit of a pr*ck. I mean you guys can play down the value of Kane all you want and have a team of Sam Reinharts but that won't get them past the first round. They need a few warriors who can score and skate too.

"Smart" cap management is EXTREMELY subjective

Seems like u wanna limit it to a particular Cap guy's point of view
But there's teams all across the league with different salary structures,
that are still good from year to year

i consider eichel tough in that sense. ROR to an extent.guys like risto, mccabe. not saying play a full team of reinharts. they've got some other guys in the ahl like bailey who have that strength.

Wasn't it Pittsburgh who just traded a 1st for a "tough" guy?

I'm still hoping we get him for closer to 8mil...
but I might be dreaming there

Salaries are skyrocketing

- jdfitz77

I was talking about Carey Price. A goaltender making that kind of cash is just begging for unwanted scrutiny.

i dont know how the numbers in a hard cap can be considered subjective. we've got 2 guys who are making or will make well above the norm for their position. that means one of these other areas will have to see less $$/more cost effective players.

Assuming he continues to work on the defence and/or the guys brought in are any good money will poured into that as well. Wingers are objectively the least valuable position in hockey so if i had to guess id say the money is coming out of there.

That or they find a way to set up a goaltending duo that makes next to nothing.

after they won 2 cups without needing that kind of guy?

That move was ridiculed by just about everyone and inspired a string of bring back JB tweets lol

its not about the way it was spent its about how much.

If we had a generational 1D and a 2D making #1 money wed be having this same conversation.

it wasnt the topic i brought up so...no?

of course money can be spent in different ways, we chose to spend it this way and thats fine. im just saying by doing so we have to make concessions elsewhere.

Players taking runs at him
Constant cheap shots
Etc

Do u really need to ask?
Or is it just that those types of things don't show up on a stat sheet?
