Have you lost your mind? - Hawkster
This is Bowman we're talking about...it's very possible. Even likely. Of course, Carolina is probably the ONLY team he's talking to, although I'm sure there are plenty of teams who can take on Hossa for 2 months before going LTRI, no skin off their nose PLUS they can cherry pick the Hawks. Get teams bidding against it. Maybe someone else will take a Graham Knott over an Alex DeBrincat. But Stan's rolodex has broken and he can only turn to "C"....Coyotes, Columbus, Carolina. |

Watch. Even his apologists on the Hawks thread are setting it up saying He's gotta do it. It will be another step toward irrelevancy. I say just play the kids, LTIR Hossa on Day 2 and now you have money for a TDL acquisition...
WHY NOW? What is so important now? Unless he's going to do something foolish like toss 7 million at Kovy or someone.
Then again some of these damn rumors are nothing more that to get people talking...Anisimov was traded 10 times over the last two weeks and he's still in Chicago. This may be nothing anyway. |

I get the dumping the Hossa contract part is key....but a 1st and Debrincat seems rich IMO. Interesting times indeed.
And yeah play the youth....would be nice to get someone to replace Hossa.

Only way I see this happening is if the Hurricanes are putting together a bigger package to try and land a 1C |

AA and Hossa and a 2nd in 2019 for Fleury.
Hawks then sign Rasmussen and/or Mcclement/Mitchell for 4th line faceoff center. Dauphin plays on 3rd line. |

I think they (Chicago) are just trying to get rid of Hossa's contract right now before they do anything else. But to get rid of it they are going to have to attach something with his contract to make it worth while for other teams. He does have 4 yrs left on his contract and I remember the Devils getting a 2nd rd pick for just taking Savards contract a he only had 1 year left a 4mil. Hossa's is 4 yrs for 5.3mil so it's going to cost Chicago something to move it and it probably be a high-end prospect or high picks. - Gambi99
The cap hit is 5.3 mil however he is paid 1 mil per year for the next 4 years. That means that the team acquiring him, especially a floor team gets the benefit of 5.3 mil of cap space for a cost of 1 mil. |

If Hossa's contract is moved Bowman will probably get involved for Duchene but we will see - BlackHawksMan88
I agree. Why would we even consider Kovalchyk (sp?)? |

The problem with this rumor is the Canes won't be a floor team next year & may need that cap space with 6 major RFAs needing raises plus another 11 minor RFAs.
Big names needing bridge deals & Raises are Slavin, Hanifin, Pesce, & Lindholm + TVR, Nordstrom, & Ward(probably a lower B/U contract)
The following year they will need money for Skinner, Williams, Aho, Fluery, & McKeown. |

The Canes will never need cap space because they are not spending up near the cap. They are on a budget. They would lose their ass with a $75mil payroll. I doubt they go over $60 mil this year (real salaries) and $65 mil next year. |

Too old....too Russian....turn and run the other direction if talking about Kovy! We won 3 Cups with zero Russians, and I think Caps have proved my loose theory that if you have 3 or more Russians on your team, you're not winning the Stanley Cup...or you'll even medal in the Olympics....in your home country!! When the going gets tough, the Russians DON'T get going! Except for Malkin...but he's surrounded by non-Russians. Nashville with how many Russians?!....me thinks zero. enough said |

I posted last week that I thought it would take a "B" level prospect like Hino and exchanging draft picks for 4 years to move Hossa's contract. Maybe our 3rd round pick for their 4th round pick for 4 years. So I think if Carolina is asking for a "B" level prospect and some picks and we get back a "B" level prospect or some picks I am ok with it.
If you move Hossa's contract you would have enough cap room to sign Fisher. (Although I do not find it likely that Fisher will leave Nashville.) He will probably stay there for $2 mil or less. (His wife Carrie Underwood is making $10 mil+ annually.)

Gonna take a lot to get decent crowds back here watching the Canes on a regular basis. When teams such as the Hawks, Caps, and Rangers come in, visiting jerseys outnumber the home jerseys. |
