Dabrincat and the Hossa contract for Kovy and retained 1.5m/y (so he'll cost the hawks 5M/y)
Hawks are still in win-now and getting Kovy on a 5m/y contract playing with Kane to replace Panarin (cuz I think Saad will play with Toews)...
Debrincat is exactly the kind of player I'd like to see play with Mike McLeod. |

LA and NJD might make sense, but not necessarily for Kovi. Martinez and Muzzin are under contract for a few more years on decent deals (4 years and 3 years, respectively, and both at 4mm AAV). If NJD took back the Gaborik contract (4 yrs at 4.875mm AAV) or Brown (5 yrs at 5.875mm AAV) along with one of Martinez or Muzzin, NJD could probably get that top 4 Dman for the price of a prospect (Quenneville?) and/or a pick. Brown can still play bottom 6 minutes. Gaborik, though, is done (unless you're really optimistic) and would functionally extend the Clowe zombie contract for another 3 years.
Happy 4th. - Only_A_Ladd
So what you're saying is Brown and Muzzin for Quenneville and a 3rd? |

Probably have to include John Moore which I believe no Devil fan would mind but they are looking for a depth defenseman in return |

Could do that, but it would cost them a pick that we could flip over to Vegas for one of their grunts. |

You're giving Kovalchuk away at that point. It cost CHI Teravainen and a 2nd to get rid of Bickell for 2 years. Hossa has 5 years left AND we're retaining salary for just Debrincat?
If Shero wanted Debrincat he could of traded up because he had 3 3rd's in the 2016 draft, but gave up one for Bennett when the 3rd round was happening instead. |

I think we should go after Jagr or Hudler, just to have someone to flip for a 2nd? And the Jagr-effect would be great for the kids.
Hossa could come back to bite us. I'd be ok if his deal was 1 year shorter, because during his last year, Hall will need to be re-signed. I hope we're contending in 3-4 years, and maybe adding pricier pieces if Nico doesn't turn into McDavid. Might be up against the cap with that 5.27 or whatever. |

I'd take Gaborik instead, 1mil less and 1 year less. Plus, he would probably be LTIR most the time if not completely at some point. |

If I'm Blake then I'd do that deal. From the Kings' perspective, it gets them a young forward and a pick, two things they need since the prospect pool is weak. Brown goes which frees up cap space to comfortably sign Doughty in a few years. Only hitch is that I understand Brown has a 7 team "no trade" list.

Hossa is going to be LTIR so NJ isn't paying a cent for him and Debrincat just raised his stock (even though he's playing w/ Strome) but Debrincat's tenacity can translate to the NHL. |

The Teravainen trade was him and Bickell for a 2nd and 3rd rd picks. Chicago received 2 picks back. |

I wouldn't mind taking Hossa, but not in a Kovalchuk deal. To me, Debrincat wouldn't be enough and I think getting a dman for Kovalchuk would be the smarter thing. |

I just remembered Bolland was trade and that included Crouse for picks. I just don't think taking Hossa should include Kovalchuk. He has more value then being a throw in. |

Well if we are doing both, trading Kovy AND taking Hossa's contract then I agree would should be getting more then just a prospect (Debrincat). |

Exactly. Roster player, specifically a defenseman needs to be coming back. |

Holy crap. It's several days into the free agent season. There's no sign of anything happening with Kovalsuck outside of some bloggers and commenters on no-less an esteemed and highly accurate website that is Hockeybuzz talking about him. Dude isn't coming to the NHL. Any rumors of him doing so were likely just efforts from his camp to extort a few million more dollars from a Russian billionaire to stay in the KHL. He's a sissy who left years ago because he couldn't cut it, and has done nothing but play against sub-par competition in the KHL for a few years now. He isn't coming back. And he would suck even if he did. NJ isn't getting anything for him. Move back to reality folks. |

A Chicago fan mentioned a offered of AA, Forsling and Hossa for Kovy(no retain) and Moore. At first I wasn't so sure but as I looked into more it might not be that bad of a offer. AA scored 22g last year (45pts in 64 games) and is a solid 2nd line center. Forsling is their top defensive prospect who played some in Chicago last year. Not that big (only 6') but offensively talented, the old Hockey Futures compared him to Vatanen but most figure he'll be a 2nd pairing defenseman. If we did that trade I could see Ray trading Henrique or flipping AA for more defensive help. |
