I think Trading Hossa and his 6 million cap hit to reach the cap floor along with some picks and maybe a prospects would be enough to get Kovy. Then the Hawks sign him to 30 mill for 5 seasons something like that , could work. imagin that top 6! - Dojodan
Would Stan Bowman be willing to part with a 1st and DeBrincat? Because would would the Devils just eat Hossa's 6 million dollar cap hit? |

I said this in another post, but what's your guys' take on Savard in Columbus? Would that be a nice return? Vatanen would probably be the best prize to get out of the bunch, albeit he's signed for 3 years instead of Savard's 4. |

The value is great, but the Devils do have somewhat of a window here. Schneider isn't getting younger. Neither are Greene or Zajac. A more immediate solution would be preferred. - willschulme
The picks might give us some flexibility to make a deal though. Don't know how many teams can spare a top 4 dman and still be a contender. |

Answered your own question Todd. Look at WPG. Hawks don't have top-4 D to trade and their picks are typically mid-20's+.
Try LA perhaps for the picks. They'll be a lottery team. - blackhawk24
LA and NJD might make sense, but not necessarily for Kovi. Martinez and Muzzin are under contract for a few more years on decent deals (4 years and 3 years, respectively, and both at 4mm AAV). If NJD took back the Gaborik contract (4 yrs at 4.875mm AAV) or Brown (5 yrs at 5.875mm AAV) along with one of Martinez or Muzzin, NJD could probably get that top 4 Dman for the price of a prospect (Quenneville?) and/or a pick. Brown can still play bottom 6 minutes. Gaborik, though, is done (unless you're really optimistic) and would functionally extend the Clowe zombie contract for another 3 years.
Happy 4th. |

Cap floor is 55m. Devils are currently at 54.6m with a couple rfa's to sign. There are 0 teams who need to add a contract like Hossa's in order to reach the cap floor right now. |

Hawks fans being hawks fans. They think they can just give their poop players to other teams in fake trades and they think it's more then what they should be giving up. Kovy wo t be in a hawks uni anytime soon. - KINGS67
Oh, good. The trade police has arrived. |

For Kovalchuk to return this season he requires a unanimous blessing from across the league... NOT HAPPENING.
Why would any team in the Central allow the Hawks to land Kovy?
Why would any team in the Metro allow the Devils to trade Kovy for a big return?
Why would any team allow a rival (division or not) to get better?
Kovy screwed over Lou, I doubt he's forgotten.
Etc etc etc...
The best the Devils can do is trade Ilya's rights and those will have conditions attached.
Kovalchuk's best option financially as well as choosing a team is to sit out this season and return in 2018/2019 when there will inevitably be a bidding war.
Sorry NJ, but the return for Kovalchuk will be minimal, if any. |

Winnipeg has no need for Kovy and Trouba is worth more than that.

I agree, I feel the only way Chicago and Devils make a trade is if we take back Hossa's contract but we should then get a decent (not crazy Devil fans) return. |

I would definitely look into that scenario. Not bad if Shero doesn't do anything else with the cap space. |
