Yes, there are some similarities but Cates is a longer-term projection. He is playing a full year in the USHL next season and then going to Minnesota-Duluth starting in 2018-19, where he will likely need three or all four collegiate seasons. But the tools are there to be a guy who plays pro.

Actually, I wrote a feature article on Cates for the Flyers' official website. It will run during development camp.

Going back to 2014, the Flyers have plucked at least 2 of what appear to be 1st round talents from each draft classes. 10 in total.

2014: Sanheim and Lindblom
2015: Provorov, Konecny and Myers
2016: Rubstov and Hart
2017: Patrick, Frost and Ratcliffe

That's true, potentially Sandstrom in 2015 as well but that was a pretty strong class. Boston did take a few swings and misses so those spots are open to move into

I don't see any truth to it. Not unless Hextall somehow unloads AMac or Manning.

Everyone seems to forgot how good Myers is, he was there best defenseman at training camp and preseason till he got hurt last season, there were rumblings he would be provy out, watch for him

No such rumblings were around camp. He had strong first two outings in preseason then hit a wall. Hecy said he did well playing with house mk money and then reality hit a bit. He will spend time in AHL this season, most likely.

He didn't get hurt in preseason. He had surgery before preseason on his groin and came into camp without a lot of training.

There were no rumblings he'd beat Provorov out. He wasn't their best defenseman either. People saw what.....1 game, if they watched that? He hit some people, which people remember most, and he had his moments, but he wasn't that good, and the games not televised his stats were pretty mediocre. And that's fine, he was barely in game shape and 19.

If Sanheim needed a year (apparently more from the Flyers perspective, but that's really debatable), Myers will get a year. He can be lax himself defensively at times and will need to learn how to defend men at his size. He is also quite flashy with the offensive zone twirls and rushing pucks up ice.....he'll need to adjust to when he should and shouldn't do it because he does it a lot. This is all coming from someone who is Myers's biggest fan.

I been watching Myers since before he was even born. Ain't no one alive seen him more than me. But I tell you what, if you act like that, guess what? Something’s coming to you. And it’s OK.

Myers likely won't even be the best defenseman on the Phantoms this season. Give him time.

I will still like this kid to get a couple of years separation till his next concussion. His two concussion so close together still gives a bit of pause.
I pray I'm wrong, cause this kid can just really add to our team down the line.
