For all the guys who love analytics - may I suggest the following few stats...
Total games a goal scored in.
Total games first assist
Total games second assist
Team record with player in lineup.
Total shifts
Penalties drawn
I am sure a few exist somewhere, but... make them more easy to find, as opposed to 87 variations on possession, would be helpful.
How does this relate to thread. Cam scored 7 of 10 goals in three games. That means three in the rest of his games. Can take it as he helped with six points (three wins) in his three big games, or he contributed little rest of time he was on the ice the other nights.
Bennett was Mr. Cellaphane. Never noticed he was there. Which has bad and good aspects to it. While he was not making plays that made you pay attention, he was not screwing up royally, or water-skiing in on opposing goals.
Curious to why Washington dumped MoJjo. I would have thought by looking at salary and stats, that he was more valuable than Oshie more versatile, durable, and younger, and cheaper than re-signing him, and Kuznetsov they look to be the same player, just timing of free agency. Either way, good deal for Devils. |

I'm very happy to have Marcus J on the team but in light of losing Camm and Beau B, it doesn't seem like our offense should be that much better. Still don't get why we bought Camm out.
With the cap space in place the type of deals you mention are spot on what NJ should be doing. They need to do more here. They should try to be in on Radulov or trading for Galchenyuk and working some more trades. It's go time. This one nice move an offseason ain't cutting it.
If Kovy shows up, I'd try work Washington some more. Kovy & Ovi would be pretty exciting for them and maybe get us a decent return. - Queenie_5_hole
Thank God your not our GM Cammy and Beau didn't exactly rack up the points and they were bought out to free up roster space for the young players, we are not in win now mode Shero is rebuilding the proper way, you want Radulov? He wants a 5-6 year deal and he's on the wrong side of 30 forget that and we don't have the assets to trade for Galchenyuk would rather use the assets we do to trade for a middle pairing defenseman and then stay the path and continue to rebuild the proper way |

Love the artcles lately Todd, good writing, good insight.
What are you thinking on the remaining $20-25MM we have left in cap? I say besides the 3.5-4MM we need to get Seve and Noesen signed (total) we want to spend at least $7-10MM more to fill gaps + get a Top 4 D signed.
Food for though:
Sign a FA veteran Dman such as a Wideman, Streit, or (yuck ) Beauchemin or Markov. Or we get a few 4-7 Dman and pray to god our young forwards put up record years: Franson, Oduya (hey, he was top 4 at one time), Tyutin.
Otherwise, who would you like to go after trading wise? Demers, Pysyk, Muzzin (great contract IMO)
Also -- what about additional forwards, if we make a trade for a Dman, we will need to give a forward up, leaving more gaps to fill. I would love to see us sign a few 2nd-3rd line vets such as: Jagr or Vanek. I would also like to take a shot at a Nail Yakupov (for the right price), and what are your thoughts on a Jiri Hudler? I always loved him over his career, which is trending downward, but I think he is capable of 30-40 points if he stays healthy on this current Devils team. He would be a 1-2 year hired gun, much like P.A.P. but we need whatever we can get at this point.
Just excited at this point with what was done. I, like many other Devs fans were getting impatient, but looks like Ray may be able to put some butts in the seats this year. Cheers to a (hopefully) potential playoff run year and many more to come!
P.S. The Christie memes are incredible. I just truly hope the Devils organization is never run like the NJ Governement - atribequesting
No to anymore free agent forwards we have a lot jam at forwars right now with a ton of young players ready to make the jump were still rebuilding bringing in veterans would do us no good actually would do more harm then good this season will be about letting the young players develop next offseason Would be a better time to bring in a free agent veteran or two to fill in the gaps but this season will be about finding out where the gaps are

Lappin and Noesen are both RW, got a feeling as of now they will be 3rd and 4th line RW.

Only reason I'd bring someone like Hudler in would be to flip him at the deadline. |

I think Lappin still has to earn his spot. Noesen will probably make the roster but will have to earn his playing time. |

I'm not saying they won't have to earn it, just think with the lack of RW on the team they have the inside track. |

We'll see. If he's included, Laine will be right beside him, then you have to include Eichel. To me, McDavid has a step on these guys.
I also forgot to include Jagr. |

Yup, we got the league by the short hairs. It's all going our way.
All you ladies do is female dog and cry why this skilled player and free agent is not right for this team. The team blows monkeys. We don't have assets for Galchenyuk? Did with have assets for Marcus Johannson? Oh crap, we got tons of draft picks left. Does the world explode if we traded a first or two?
This whole tear down rebuild the right way is just a sales job from a team that won't spend any money. OMG somebody playing hockey is going to be over 30. Lets panic. It's moronic. No offense to you personally. Maybe a little.
Camm put up the 5th most points on the team in 61 games. In his worst season following a major injury. Granted his best days are behind him but it's not like he hasn't been fairly productive. |

If Montreal had gotten Radulov, there might have been some back and forth between us and Montreal, but now that I think Dallas is getting him, I don't know... |

I think it would be a mistake not to bring in a few UFA's to compete with the young guys in camp. I still think a guy like Grigorenko or Pirri would push for a bottom 6 role and allow the younger guys time to develop if they don't look ready.
I was wondering if it came down to the Rangers or bust for Kovy what would the return have to be?? Any thoughts?? |

Yeah, I was just throwing that out there. I think they're nuts to be shopping him.
IF we get anything for Kovy, I'd rather have some help of D. |

Shero has been going back in time via trades and fixing some of our first round blunders:
Devil's 1st round picks that netted zero long term value:
2003 Parise @ 17 (lost for no return)
2005 Bergfors @ 23 (bust)
2006 Corrente @ 30 (bust)
2008 Tedenby @ 24 (bust)
2009 Josefson @ 20 (bustish)
2012 Matteau @ 29 (Bust traded for a Buyout)
1st rounders Shero has brought us via trades/FA:
2003 Boyle @ 26 (established NHL player)
2009 Palmieri @ 26 (top 6)
2009 Johansson @ 24 (top 6)
2010 Hall @ 1 (All star)
2011 Noesen @ 21 (established NHL player)
2013 Mueller @ 18 (Not sure yet)
Now we also have some decent talent in the pipeline mainly from Shero's picks (outside of Q who I am high on but was pre Shero), with Zacha, Mcleod, Hischier and a group of potential 2nd and 3rd round prospects that could pan out to be impact players.
I can only imagine what it would look like today with more 'status quo' decisions if the old management was still at the healm.
I think Shero is doing a great job righting the ship here. We just need to figure out the D and the future is looking more and more promising. |

Pretty harsh to say Parise netted no long term value. Him and Kovi made games a ton of fun to watch. I'd put value in that.

Also, I'm glad we don't have to deal with the albatross of a contract that Min is stuck with. Worked out in the long run. |
