I think that if the team is as competitive as they are, the kids are happy, are they really going to want to torpedo the organization's chances of success? Stamkos took less money, so did Crosby and Malkin; I think as long as they don't make stupid moves, they'll be ok in a few years.

Matthews controls all of that, so that's a big IF. The Leafs will want to lock him up next year, and simply based off of McDavid's extension, he'll justify a 10 million+ extension.

I can't see Lou finessing out of that, plus Marner and to a lesser extent wee Willie will get big bumps.

If it's "any year" for the Leafs to go for it, this is the one.
