I like the Marleau signing. Guy still has speed, brings the veteran presence, can score goals, is good in playoffs, and is defensive. High cap hit but its worth it for a 3 year span (would of preferred 2). Gives us a good push for the next 2 year span before matthews and marner get paid. I am confident we will be able to sign the big 3, we wont lose them.

Still puzzled by the hainsey signing though, i know it was a weak free agency for defenders but probably would of rolled a 1 year deal on him not 2

You could be right. They likely talked to JVR and his agent to get a feel for what they wanted and perhaps decided it was more than they wanted to give. They then made other plans and we'll see a trade. Could be.

Make playoffs interesting would be the push, not saying they win the cup, but would make things definitely more interesting or to go further, who knows. 2 year span to do whatever we want before the boys get paid, might as well go all out.

We still have about what, 7.5M+ LTIR cap space? Man i would love to push for kovalchuk to get in the mix, offense would be off the charts, not that it isnt already But i am sure leafs will be conservative about the remaining cap space in case bigger names for the next year appear in free agency
