Leivo and rychel will be with the marlies
- Fakepartofme

I think they both have to clear waivers to be sent down to the marlies. Maybe they will be traded for mid to late round draft picks.

This probably means JVR is gone, and that's probably the right move, but if they decided to keep him for this season the Leafs have the best top 9 in the league.

I like Hyman on the top line. Matthews scored more 5v5 goals than anybody in the NHL with Hyman on his line. You need different types of players on a line to make it work and Hyman is the guy who digs for pucks.

Mathews dug and man handled for far more pucks than Hyman did.

Yeah Matthews is a beast at every aspect of the game. But Hyman is a good player on that line. You have Nylander who can carry and control the puck, make sick passes and snipe. You have Matthews who is like a superhero and then Hyman fits in well for his roel.

If it wasn't Hyman he probably would of had more than 29 assists. Guy has no finish.

If he dug out as many pucks as his narrative suggested, he would have assisted on a lot more of those Matthews and Nylander goals. He works hard but that's not enough to get you a spot on the top two lines. His numbers suggest he was mostly dead weight.

Leafs needed a vet with size who could play a significant role. Good fit. As much as I wish it was less money and a year less term I still like that this team is trying to win and showing the youth that they now have more help and leadership now. But it also sends a message that the team expects bigger things and it's time to step up to the next level. They did it without crippling the teams long term future with a contract. Good job. lots of money coming off the books soon.

Lots of goals get scored and the guy who does the work gets no points.

I agree we can have someone better, we'll see how it looks with Marleau

Maybe Hyman slides into JVR's spot

At some point, I think we stop paying Tim Gleason.

With all the youth on the team, and no captain, they really needed a legit vet. At least this one can still play. Beats signing Iginla.

Agree 100%.

And it's not a 5-8 year deal.

The third year might cause some problems but you can always work around one year. Not too concerned.

Hearing that San Jose's final position with Marleau was that Sharks were willing to go $10 M over 2 yrs.

Didn't really expect a big FA signing like this, but after reading about it, it seems all good to me.

I like the creative thought that went into the structure of this deal for Marleau so he can easily be either traded or put on LTIR in his last year if we need the cap space.

He is getting up in years, but is still a good player. He can probably share a lot of wisdom and tips with the kids. Good mentor for the young guys while still a legit scoring threat.

Good signing.

After this season, we'll be free and clear of Lupul, Gleason, and Cowen.

I can't be bothered to look it up, but I have no idea what contract he could've possibly had that has meant the Leafs are still paying him 5 or so years after he left.

Won't shock me if they trade JVR for Kovalchuk's rights and a couple of other pieces. And I'm not a fan of Kovalchuk, it's just a move I can see the Leafs trying.
