Denis Wideman and Joe Thornton come on down, which would lead to exit stage left.
- tomburton99

Thornton/Marleau I think is a real possibility.

I don't mind Marleau. More that likely he won't be good but at least he has some class. Not like mouthy Thornton.

Thornton may be worth the hit on a two year deal depending on his knees. Marleau still capable of playing center?

shattenkirk will "useless" by the 3rd or 4th year?
by that logic thornton & marleu are already retired

- puckhead17

Maybe I should clarify. Useless, as in replaceable by anyone making a lot less money. Rangers let Stepan go because, even though he's still relatively young, ntc kicks in and they're locked into 6.5 for next 4 years. To go out and sign passed prime players to ridiculous contracts makes no sense. Shattenkirk might be worth the money for a couple years, but they'll always be a younger better player available at some point. Making decisions based on name recognition is not the way to go. So, yeah. Trading Stepan who is 10 years younger and had more points, pretty much makes Thornton useless. Unless your goal is to be cap strapped

ultimately it comes down to this

we need a right handed defenseman in the worst way to pair on one of top two pairs

we desperately need a kick in the butt on the powerplay

we have ample cap space

there is a guy available at noon today who fills these descriptions who just happened to grow up a Ranger fan, won't cost any assets to get him

opportunities like this to come around too often

- jimbro83

and its coincidental stepans $ is very close to his (and the trade they made took back no $).

i agree staying away from thornoton, but not with shattenkirk. again if he was 30-32 right now no way, but he's 28 and this is not the same as handing the long term $ to Girardi, and Staal. They were not very mobile in an offense that revolves around transision & speed. Shattenkirk is somewhat made for this type of attack as why he never jelled in Washingtons thumping, grinding, forecheck style. He moves the puck very well, and can help increase the offensive ability in some of the other players. Girardi & Stall were never that kind of player

So it will be like last year when everyone was flipping out because they signed Grabner and the other midget who played in Buffalo for awhile

No problem. Buffalo had Ennis, Gerbe and Gionta for a while. All three are like 5'5.

Hartnell jumbo Hanzal bonino marleau all will get those deals where people are dumbfounded, all with NTCs. Every year there is like 5-6 of them

I'd be happy with Shatty only because they need him so bad.

Problem is we already traded our trade assets. Unless we are moving one of our young wingers, not much left to trade

Hanzel rumored to Dallas & thats a great fit. They dont have a 2nd line center
I'd still rather have what Hayes brings than him.

Pavelic dropped to #3 on Winnipegs depth chart last year. No please.
I cant see them ending the weekend with $8m cap space available.

Yeah as would I but don't think it's happening I'd say he's going to Boston most likely.
