The Devils could technically afford to pay each of the $7M and still have some cap room to round out the roster. The thought of doing that is both exciting and pretty scary. Two crazy flight risk Russians and a fake #1D man...

Too scary for my liking....I say stay the course, keep salary flexibility and maybe bring in some young talent that maybe haven't pan out on other teams (Yakapov, Grigorenko, Burmistrov) or under 28 guys who will never be stars but can fit in and help the rebuild. Just no older, over priced free agents. If we do that we will be looking at another Cammy and we will be buying them out in two years.....also i would do a trade were a team is looking to get rid of a bad contract (2yrs or less on it) and maybe they give us a pick or prospect.

Am I the only one not a huge fan of all this?

I thought we could play Cam and see if he has a better year, then try to trade him, maybe keep half his salary.
but whatever, it's fine.
I just think we're still one bad year (one great draft pick) away from being in full go-forward mode.

Will Zacha or McLeod end up being top liners? will they end up being 2nd liners even??
Who do we have that could legitimately be a franchise player... on either side of the ice???? MAYBE Hischier?

and don't give me the "the Cup champion devils didn't have a star player.." OKAY.

I'm very leery to add this year. I'm leery to add an older Radulov, an older Kovy, a middle-aged #2/#3 WAY overpaid dman. I'm even on the fence with offer-sheeting Kuz or Draisatl. Will either of them be top tier talent? It just doesn't make sense to me.
Yea, we have money now. But eventually.. like when we're actually going to be contenders.. if these kids develop into great players, they're going to need money too. doi.

I get the whole not wanting our kids to be in a losing environment thing.. so then... maybe.. have them... not play here this year?

idk. would our franchise crumble if we blew the season? idk..

I'm no GM, obviously, but unless Hischier ends up being a top tier center.. and McLeod or Zacha follow him on the 2nd line, then I really don't see this team going anywhere besides a Leafs-esque multi-decade rebuild.

What happens if we don't reach the cap floor? LOL

Hope Cammy turns it around and is healthy.

Knowing the NHL they will probably take away our draft picks and fine us.

I actually think that is what happens, not because it's the Devils either.

I feel they either need to start taking steps forward and stick with Hall and Schneider as the two main pillars, or go full rebuild and trade at least Schneider, maybe Hall too. I think short of drafting generational players, having talented young players come up in a winning environment is important. Look at the mess that was the Oilers before they lucked into McDavid. The Avalanche for years were considered to have one of the best group of young players, and they've been awful (besides Roy's bizarre first year). Getting high draft picks is a big part of turning a franchise around, but it's not all of it and at a certain point you need to decide to try to push the team forward. I'm totally open to them trying to do that this summer.

... yep, still have a bad feeling about this

... so much for rebuilding

I've been advocating trying to sign a top FA to help get the team back on track but now it's like Holy Pooparoni what is Ray up to????

Unless we are really spending to the Cap (and I'd be shocked if we did) I would have kept Camm and hoped for a little bounce back year. But maybe they figured if they were going to be on the hook for 50% of his salary anyway to move him (which they couldn't do) why not buy him out.

Will McLeod not translate to a center in the NHL?

On a side note, at some point I would love to see McLeod, Hall and, Wood on the same line. The pure speed on that line alone would create huge problems

All of this stuff is happening and I'm just sitting here waiting for them to bring back Stevens to run the defense

I think the point i'm making is, we don't have Matthew, Marner, Nylander to build around. We have Hischier, McLeod, and Zacha. A bit of a difference, and why I think we need another top pick. Play some of those kids in the minors. Let them be on THAT kind of winning team.. down there.. while we get better for the future through another top pick up here.

I want to see Hall play with Hischier at least a little bit. Hall is almost too fast for any other forward currently on the team. Not just about foot speed but overall "hockey speed"

I definitely think Nico and Hall will get time to play together. Once they develop some chemistry I can see Nico getting assists on a lot of Hall goals.

I agree. I think we will get Shattenkirk though. Not sure about the other cap space - take on some ugly contracts for some prospects/picks?

I actually think Hall is a bit more of a play-maker than a scorer, he makes some unreal passes. I think that's why he worked well with Palmieri, who is more shoot-first.

I like the idea of a Hall - Hischier - Palmieri line, at least at some point.

What if Shero is going to offer sheet Draistitel (Edm). 8 years at around 9-10 million? Granted they'd lose 3 1st rd draft picks but to get a player like that could make this franchise. Not sure Edm could afford to match after pending McDavid contract.

I guess it could be worse. We could not have Hischier.

I'm just very murky on our situation, for lack of a better term.

Offer sheet Leon would be awesome. I'd do exactly that. I'd do back flips.

i like the dsp buyout, i am ok but a little confused with the cam buy out

what will cams cap hit be and for how long? not that it is going to make a difference with all the cap room we have.

So a team that struggles to score buys cam out that when healthy (not often) he can put the puck in the net, minus last season when he did play.

I think this means that we will be seeing more of the young guys, unless it means kovy is coming back and stays or we have a trade in place but just have to wait?

i wouldnt be shocked if we massively overpay shat

green-shat

i cant really see the roster like that, not just due to kovy but i think ray will bring others in

i can see them on the PP, and late in the game when we are down if nico is showing his offensive skills

but i dont see them playing too much on a line together this season
