Imagine Jagr-Jumbo-Zucc all on the same line? Nobody would shoot but we'd have the puck for like 45 straight minutes.

A few points:
1) while the forward is lonked to who is brought in D, evaluating those options separate and distinct from the D should be part of the determination as to path forward
2) question I posed had nothing to do with 'Kirk. You know my view there
3) don't think the Smith signing was excessive at all. Maybe, maybe 300k, but t me, it was right in the range I expected
4) back up goalie is now a key. I liked Kinkaid and Johnson, both are gone. Now, I like Nilsson, really want no part of Niemi. Maybe they deal a pick for one, but not an option I like.

I agree in full on Nilsson being their best and likely lowest priced as well backup target. The other lower priced cap hit F.A. backups that would come in closer to Raanta's 1M cap hit are Kuemper (o.k.), and Berra (no). I also had advocated here earlier for Johnson (2nd stint under Allaire making his game turnaround), and Kinkaid.
On your other 3 points all combined, various media members felt that Smith's price was a little excessive for many NHL teams, except a few. I felt it was not excessive for us, and had expected it to be in the +/- $4M range. However, the price will later be viewed as excessive if they do not attempt seriously enough to sign Shatty, or acquire close to the equivalent type offensive d'man for our needs. That will make or break this team next season, since better rosters here under a younger Hank for one, were not good enough to reach Hank's ultimate goal, due much in part to that missing link here, especially after the 2014 Cup Finals.

I think the Rangers will and should see if Jagr or Cammalleri or Jokinen are fits for one year. Would lengthen lineup with minimal risk. Fall back options.

And my idea of the offer sheet to Draisaital is a doable option! Why not kick the tires on that? Why not touch base with both Hanzel & Gagne? If you look at the team with the above mentioned pieces, this team can win Now!
