I'd hate to be Montreal.

Word is Price will get 10MM a year.

- ImThatGuy

although Price is the best goalie right now, i dont think there has ever been a goalie worthy of that dollar amount in a contract.. not broduer, not Roy, not Hasek.. so it shouldn't be any different for price.. goalies should max out around 7

I would never pay a goalie more than 4-5 a year. Build the defense up and your goalie will be fine.

There's no chance in (frank) the Caps can afford Orlov, Kuznetsov, Burakovsky and Grubauer.

They'll have to trade Lars Eller to even have a chance.

I agree hasek wasn't worth 10 million a year, he should of made 50 million a year. His team sucked. When we were in the cup, peca was our best forward and zhitnik best defenseman. Peca would of been on dallas 3rd line and zhitnik there 4th or 5th best defenseman. Hasek single handedly carried that team for years. Every player should of gave him. Part of there salaries

I don't see the Sabres being very active in FA, maybe a lower level signing on the wing and I guess Chad is coming back.
The trade route continues to intrigue me. If GMTM was relieved of his duties because he sat on his hands throughout this past season (and personality conflict with Kim), the I can't imagine Botts not moving Kane as well as bribes a team into taking Bogo or Moulson by sending a prospect/draft pick ... looking at you LV.

We're really I'm a golden age of solid goaltending. The gap between the elite and the worst goalie is smaller than ever. Almost every team can find a serviceable goalie

Shattenkirk is not on Ek's roomer funhouse to come to Buffalo. There's a real chance we're about to shell out a massive contract.

They were talking about that on the radio last week. I think it was Yost that was on (but I can't entirely remember). Basically said that there's about 25 teams that have solid goaltending (we were one of them) and that it would be silly to move Lehner or anything like that because then we become one of the few teams that DON'T have solid goaltending.

If Murray were still at the helm, I'd pretty much expect it. But I'm not so sure Botterill is going to be a guy that does stuff like that.

i tend to agree with you on this.. the defense can make or break most goalies.. but there are the few like hasek as 39 eludes to in the next post who can make a crappy team that much better..

I fully expect the sabres to offer a 42 to 45 mil contract for 7 years to shat

and I fully expect him to use that to get a deal done with the rangers

i agree and looking back on the lack of ownership to even pony up for one year frustrates the crap out of me.. they could of basically had the cup handed to them if they put a half ass decent team in front of him. give him any of millers teams and we got a cup..

we will never see 3 goalies as dominant as hasek, roy, and brodeur again, in the same era

the true golden age of the goalie was the late 90s... three of the best goalies ever all in the league at the same time..

the sabres were a lottery team and hasek alone made them a cup contender

once hasek moved on, they actually became that lottery team

the purest will disagree but IMO hasek is miles ahead of #11 for the greatest sabre ever, and that is not a dig on gilbert

if he WANTS to go to the rangers and the rangers want him we would have to do a massive over payment to get in the conversation.. NO thank you

Price is a pretty decent example of that though.

Think about it, 2 seasons ago when he was hurt and they had to go with Condon for most of the season, they missed the playoffs. This year, they led the division at the end of the season.

On the flip side of that, Ottawa was without Anderson for a very good chunk of the season due to his wife's cancer diagnosis and had to run with Condon during that time. They made the playoffs, coming in 2nd in the division, only 5 pts behind Montreal.

I'd like to think that's pretty telling, IMO.

I don't know why, but I really just don't like the idea of paying him big money. Maybe I'm a bit gun shy after other big contracts we've handed out to FA's not work out so great. Just doesn't sit well with me right now.
