Who is first in iron the man streak? - MR.Hunter
Cogliano - has never missed a game in his career , hard to believe Phil Kessel is fourth (541 games), Marleau has 555

Don't take offense. I'm older than Marleau - and half the Leafs roster could have a dad who's 37. The point is they are not just depreciating assets, they are more rapidly depreciating. Joe's production dropped by 40% last year. Marleau scored 27, but he's not the same player he once was (and I will confess I've never been a huge Marleau fan, even if he did score 40+).
If you want to slot them in, then you need to decide who gets bumped - because they aren't signing to play 4th line minutes.
Most of us can agree Hyman can be bumped, but is that Babs thing? Is Marleau or Thornton a puck retriever? So who loses minutes and has their development hampered? Nylander? Marner? Do we sign one of them to trade JVR and then skip Kapanen's advancement?
Williams could at least take Hyman's spot. He's a puck retriever. - Monkeypunk

Good faceoff guy, kills penalties and would eliminate the requirement for eyesore Ben Smith. Agree, he's not what he was, incredible work ethic and into fitness the in the same way as Gary Roberts. Good dressing room guy. Worth a look at the right price and he won't be looking for an 8 year contract.

Not hard to fathom Kessel being an ironman, only guy I've watched play a contact sport for 5 years and never get hit or hit anybody. |

You keep saying Ben Smith. I think our discrepancy here is that I don't think that Ben Smith in any way is an option - so if he IS an option, then, yeah, pretty much anyone else would do! I was of the opinion that Grundstrom, Gauthier or Rychel would supplant someone like Smith if we didn't find a decent 4th line option to perform the role.
Regardless you can't just replace Ben Smith with a guy of that calibre, because they don't slot into Smith's role. You end up displacing a guy like Kadri, Bozak or Komarov and pushing them down. Marleau would score more than Leo, to your point, but I don't recall Marleau doing a whole lot of checking people. |

offer sheets rare, Oilers would be (frank)ed if someone offered Draisaitl $10 mil but he will sign a shorter term contract and then look for a major payoff in 3-4 years. - winsix
that's not how chia rolls.
he's going to overpay so draisaitl doesn't get an offer sheet.
that'll learn everyone. |

If anyone watches South Park...
What would Paul Byron do if he were here right now?
I think he'd score a goal or 2 cuz that's what Paul Byron would do - gergeswillems
When Paul Byron was in the alps, Fighting grizzly bears,
He used his magical fire breath, And saved the maidens fair. |

Coming this September only on the CBC... It's the all new hit tv show Keeping up with Paul Byron.
Episode 1: Byron takes his dog to the park where he has a poop. But no one knows if it's Byron's or the dog?
Episode 2: Byron goes shopping for a fall jacket. He brings along his best friend and agent, Ek. They listen to Shania Twain music in the car but Ek interrupts and asks "seriously friend, Wtf?" - gergeswillems
