Alzner was in town two days ago.

Every report are saying Montreal is really interested and Alzner loved the city.

He'd look good on that 2nd pairing with Petry but god dammit he's gonna be so overpaid.

Sad about Semenko.

Some of you fellas may have forgotten, or you are simply too young, but Semenko's last season was with the Leafs.

The Ilya Kovalchuk situation remains murky, but whispers have grown over the last 48 hours that he'll likely return to the KHL next season
.

If he plays one more KHL year he no longer is Devils property

Not sure how signing more forwards ( old enough to be grand parents ) makes Hunwick/Marchenko/Marincin better....but if it does, do it!!!
- Garnie

The more I think about it, the more I like it. Move JVR for a defenseman, move Bozak for whatever, replace them with Marleau and Thornton. Only if they'll sign for two years though. If they want more than two years, walk away.

The whole scenario is really far fetched though.

So do you think the play is to stay in the K for one more year then come over as a FA?

I don't know, his production did slow down in the 2nd half but he looked good in the playoffs. (that week rest at the end of the year probably helped too).

Then again Habs had a very tough time at the end of Therrien's tenure as coach so the drop in play/production could also be caused by this.

Either way, he's the least of my worries going into next season.... he needs a partner on that first pairing. And aside from Markov (who's even older) there are no options on the UFA market on that left side worth mentionning. (Alzner ain't that guy)

- Scabeh

There is so little out there in terms of Defense. Shattenkirk picked the right year for FA.

Leafs can't afford him though, and neither can Habs, given Price, Matthews, etc. contracts.

It means that Kovy has a tentative agreement with a NHL team to join them this season, and now uses the KHL option as leverage for to lower the asking price in the trade.. NJ can get something now, or nothing 1y from now..

I feel the rankings are:

1: Chabot
2: Every other prospect now and forever.

- Scabeh

Marner won everything you could win. He was a great rookie, but not generational and not leading the Leafs to the SCF. Somehow Sens fans believe a rookie Dman from the Q will put them over the top... oh and that guy whose college nunbers were not as good as Jimmy-less-than-30-pts.-Vesey.

Habs don't need RHD anyway man.

The need is on the left side.

I think NJ don't want to trade him since he isn't worth what he would be on the ice. Also SKA lost Shipachyov already. Look to lose Dadonov and Gusev soon. Plus lost Panarin two years back.

They can't afford to lose all their stars. They're the pillar of the KHL. Without them and Magnitogorsk they fold.

Semenko's PIM's were surprisingly low, 37th in NHL over his career span.
