Yup.

Kane/Toews had much more reasonable 2nd contracts..they didn't get those big ass deals until their 3rd contracts. Plus they had Duncan Keith locked up at a steal and Hossa at a great cap hit with the LTIR retirement contract.

Pitts is probably a more comparable team to look at.
Crosby and Malkin got close to max deals didn't they?
I remember people being shocked a the dollars/term.

turned out alright for the Pens...

Weren't those contracts done by Bowman?
- Kaynine

Yes but Tallon gifted him his present day stars.

They struggled to surround them with quality depth until the cap went up though...Oilers will have similar issues. Especially if Chia keeps handing out deals like has to Lucic/Russell

$18.2m vs $21m

So far the Pens r B2B champs & odds on favourite again.
Hawks r spinning their wheels.

Chia has proven not to be good at cap management.
In McDavid & LD though he is stuck paying them their worth.
Like u say its other contracts he has problems with.

Is winning three cups in 8 years really spinning your wheels?

The Oilers like every other team needs good drafting & assets in the system.
JP is good but more r needed to keep cost control healthy.
That all said the Oilers r trending up very well indeed.

Sedins watched all their country club buddies leave ...and they are replaced by a bunch of kids ...Sedins get mad ...Benning says to them it's just part of the "cycle"....Daniel turns to him and says "really funny Jim ..."

Why are you calling me a bigot? That seems unnecessary. I don't think Subban is ready for the NHL. I am entitled to my opinion as are you.
- CanuckDon

Because it seemed inflammatory.

Wow simply Wow....

Cap problems.
Side ways deal Saad for Panarin.
Lose Kjarmalson.
Weak D depth now.

Sounds like the Canucks contender years....
Nobody in the system.
Not enough to get it done.

Don't get me wrong the Hawks r good but not great anymore.
The league has caught up to them & only in the mix now.
Any dominance they have or had doesn't mean much in the PO's anymore.
Up to them to make me eat my words lol

Our regular season dominance of years gone by got us nada

A force to reckon with yes but not odds on favourite to make the finals IMO
Keith & Seabrook cannot play 35-40mins every PO game

Hutton and Subban both have defensive issues but the big difference is size. Subban gets manhandled in the AHL has trouble getting burned to the outside. I just think his confidence would be ruined in the NHL. zero rush with the kid in my opinion. I don't think he will ever be an NHL regular. I hope I am wrong though.
- CanuckDon

I think you too hard on the kid. All I'm saying is give him a shot in a real season situation, not just pre-season.

This is the time to experiment with some of the guys you've had sitting in the minors. No harm, no foul. This team has a few years of losing still before it all gets better.

They seem to be able to compete no matter who they lose every season…kinda like DET was for so many years they seem to be a factor.

Jets Leafs Flyers to name a few of the forever looking for a real starter.
Retreads & castoffs have gained them nothing IMO

- Nighthawk

Andersen is pretty legit, his numbers were very good consider that teams defence. I agree with other two, but Leaves have found their guy.

I'm not just talkin Subban. I think most fans have accepted the fact we are rebuilding so they have a built in excuse to tinker and experiment with your roster without focusing solely on wins.

Try something different and even against the NHL grain. They might find a surprise... and if they don't so what? Is it so devastating to slip from 28th to 31st overall?

In reality, it's kind of a win.

Neither was i bro.
I simply don't care to sign any UFA's who r not the answer for years to come.
Audition our prospects instead of using plugs.
This is a rebuild not a retool anymore.

Serviceable yes but not good enough IMO
His contract was a strange one without the body of work to have earned it.

Yes! Audition our own prospects (the nucks still have a few that haven't been given a fair shot) instead of recycling ufa plugs.

If your own prospects don't work out then start signing plugs and dumping your dead weight prospects.
