I think with the Rangers signing of Chris Nell it didn't really make sense for the Rangers to sign another college goalie, along with the thousand goalie prospects they have already
probably not an attractive place for Peterson to come to either
Hartford this coming season is going to be Halverson and Nell - jimbo83

True also, but maybe that's why Roy really departed. - RangerSaver
When Roy left, pretty sure he said it was because he didn't agree with Sakic's decisions and vision moving forward |

There's no guarantee that Deangelo's lesser minutes played games would be of any benefit here. It is also known that he has his own troubles defensively like Shatty does at times. But at least Shatty has proven much better for a lot longer what he does best offensively to help his team win, while playing full time minutes.
Shatty would also be partnered with McDonagh to make a top NHL 1st line pairing. As a result, McDonagh would be relied on somewhat less in carrying the play offensively from the back line up, including at times on the power play. Shatty's presence would also lower both McDonagh's ice time & stressful minutes played slightly, which would keep him fresher later in the season & thereafter.
In addition, Deangelo must also fully mature in life off the ice, for which only he has total control of, if he wishes to do so. Even if successful, a Shatty signing is still currently the best available offensive option needed for their 1st unit right side spot on a regular full time game basis. - RangerSaver

for all the people who keep bringing up Shattenkirk's issues defensively
HE WILL PLAY WITH EITHER MCDONAGH OR SKJEI it would be fine.
stop trying to talk yourselves into reasons why you don't want him, if you don't want a 7 year deal given out to a 28 year old defenseman, just stick with that - jimbo83

Is that note at the bottom new? Or has that always been the deal? "The AAV is determined by the lesser of either A) The number of years offered or B) 5 years"?
So really it doesn't even logically make sense to offer more than 5 years because you'll end up with a higher-than-reality AAV. |

Went downhill after Roy left. - tomburton99
Wtf, Roy created this mess, his involvement set the franchise back years, when he couldn't keep burning it to the ground he pouted and left |

That caveat makes it kinda hard.
If you offered him 8 years and $62,815,576 (a true AAV of $7,851,947) which should cost the offering-team 1 first, 1 second, and 1 third, it would actually cost 4 first round picks because you'd have to divide that by 5 years, instead of 8.
That completely deters a team from being able to make a realistic offer. |
