With the 7th pick, the Rangers have selected #7, Rod Gilbert, out of retirement.

I'm not old enough to know, but I bet it's a shame he never won a championship. He, Giacomin etc.

I am loving what EDM is doing with McDavid - He will look back in 10 years and wonder why he never won. you cant pay 1 player that much and epxect to win. Look at Chicago now with Toews and kane. at least they won the cup before cashing in.

Can we at least give Lias Andersson a chance to first make the team in training camp, and if so, a chance then to remain on the Pro roster for good if successful?

When you guys do a fantasy draft at the beginning of the season, do you just grab The Hockey News and pick the next guy available on the projected list?

No one knows how these kids will turn out, The Rangers didn't make a mistake drafting him, we all wait and see how it plays out.

Leon Draisaitl is supposedly looking for a 7 or 8 year deal at 9 million per year. Crazy.

Specifically, "Eddie", who although will tell you himself that Richter winning one, and Hank still without one, were even more deserving of at least winning one.

That still might not be crazy enough for some that want the Rangers to present an offer sheet to him to possibly have him signed, and forfeit even more for the future.
If a team is only one certain & specific type and top quality player away from winning a Cup, then you may make an offer sheet to that player. If not as in our case in needing much more, you never present another player with an offer sheet. It could also alone affect the way that many other NHL teams would want to deal with you in the future, whether you obtained that player or not.

Ranger fans... Shatty is terrible defensively. you don't want him. ESPECIALLY at the price he wants. anyone giving him 6 or 7 mil a year will regret it.

I'm not saying the Rangers should do that at all. But a team like the Coyotes, Hurricanes or Nashville would be smart to do it.

I'm sure most of us knows, but still he's probably the RHD available that has what we need to fix our miserable pp.
If he's signed, it will be Henrik, G and Staal all over again - 1M too much per and 2 years too many.
If we're gonna go for it one more time, I'd say 'sign him' - even if I really don't want to...

too many kicks at the can already. they need to try something different. we cant afford to sign these type of players anymore. it doesnt work. we know that.

Totally agree with that, and really with the rest of what you say as well - still that potentially awful contract could very well be the best available for us out there if we're gonna 'stay' a contender...

I dont think we need Shatty. Honestly, I would rather go into the season with the Dcore we have and see what we have. let the kids play. if we need another guy at the deadline - then we can use our cap to potentially acquire one.

Kinda risky if all these kids aren't ready you can dig yourself a big whole and wind up being sellers at deadline. Not to mention I can see Hank being upset and possibly becoming a distraction.

Like Jimbo have said - Avalanche seems to be impossible to make a deal with. Still, after we got the 7th and the 21st, I somehow felt we could have a fair shot at getting MacKinnon. I thought, those 2 picks + Kreider and possibly the 1st in -18 as well could do it. For me, MacKinnon is one of the best I've ever seen. A true #1C
And if so, the Dcore as is - with Smith and possibly Day.

Just saw the NHL announced today that 10 teams were fined for Salary Cap violations dating back to last season. Nice to see the Rangers were NOT one of those teams!
Good job Gorton!

I've made.it clear my issue isn't Andersson the player or the person. The issue is with the Rangers and how they handled that 7th overall pick.
- tomburton99

Wrong! Nyr took the player that they thought, not you, was best pick. Enough already
