Probably only a 8, 10 or 12 team list. Not bad.
- tomburton99

or a 24, or 32, or 50 team list. no problem... I hate these no trade clauses

Yeah it would be insane to know what Joe S wants for MacKinnon. Supposedly the Duchene price is ridiculous.

Btw, that wasn't my post that had that trade proposal for MacKinnon. I wouldn't post what would we would probably have to give to get him.

What's up boys? Been away on vacation & heard about the recent Ranger news. Loved Step but I actually liked the deal although losing Raanta hurt too. The feee cap space has me worried about a big deal for SHATTY. Really don't want to get set back w a big heavy contract on D again although short term he will help.

A little birdie did tell me things got ugly in here a bit recently. Can't we all get along?!

Kid grew up a massive Ranger fan... I'm on board not paying the reported prices, but what if it is cheaper? What if we are talking 6x6. You doing that?

if Klein doesn't retire, then they are buying him out, don't see another scenario

Without Smith & Shatty signings, the mode in reality is going to be a "rebuild" here instead, although the Rangers would not want that to be made known just yet. The better all around roster that couldn't get past the Kings was one thing, due in part to bad luck on shots hitting goal posts in OT losses, along with some atrocious reffing. But the following season's Conference Finals loss to Tampa in which they struggled offensively at home, none worse than the shutout loss in Game #7, has lived on with the power play continuing to be a huge issue here.
The two most important words in your blog Jan, are "Smith & Shattenkirk", the second of which now that Smith is done, is equally as necessary in order to "rebuild on the fly WHILE STILL BEING A CONTENDER" under Hank. Smith was a must for his grit alone on the back line. But your paragraph in quoting Sean Hartnett's numbers that I mentioned yesterday, are the key here.
Those 2 stats were Shatty's 113 power play points being second only to Erik Karlsson's 118 for d'men over the past 5 seasons, along with our recent postseason's power play being a whole 7.7%. In addition, there is no better RH offensive d'man option available free of creating more roster holes. If there were, we should also realize that there are 12 NHL d'men with cap hits between $5.5M to $6.5M, (the ideal range for Shatty to be signed for here). Of those 12 d'men, 10 also have some type of CLAUSE in their contracts, making any other better overall RH d'man than Shatty, had they been available F.A.wise, be even harder to sign.
If as Jan feels due to his 2 earlier trades falling through, in that the money is not likely his biggest issue, & he may be willing to play for less only for the Rangers, due to the obvious already known before he was drafted by Colorado, then Shatty is also a must signing. If not, we may later see next season that the plan in reality was to actually "rebuild", all along dating back to late night on May 9th, 2017.
Edit: Since someone just asked me, I will worry about centers after some RH d'man with offensive skills is brought here first. For now, I will be more than happy with Zibanajed being re-signed, and see if Andersson can make the team out of training camp. A backup to Hank would be next. Fast will be a quick re-signing at forward, but they may still need to acquire a defensive minded center to replace Stepan in part. That could possibly be a Brian Boyle.

I can only imagine. People going bonkers over that pick even though no one here ever saw him play. I never understood the mentality of desecrating a 18 yr old kid who hasn't even stepped out on the ice yet for us.

I actually have a feeling that that pick is going to make a lot of people feel stupid when all is said in done. Think he'll be a real good player. The benchmark is Vilardi, who the vast majority wanted. Compare their two careers and we will see if it was a good pick, a bad pick or kind of a push.

It's unfair to compare him to everyone that was drafted after him, because Vilardi was the guy that fans wanted the Rangers to take.

Middlestadt also, same with Tippett, as a scorer. I like Andersson, just at the time, liked others better. I hope I am proven very wrong.

Middlestadt sounds like he is going to do 4 years in college, and honestly that would be really irritating

get him after he does his 4 years and refuses to sign

Picks are hit-and-miss. They may look good playing with the kids, but when they are on the ice with the men, not all pan out as hoped.

You never know until they are at the dance.

So, a bit of a difference of opinion amongst a couple of the talking heads.

My guess is that the Rangers are more interested in a center. I actually think it's a bigger need.
