I think Vanek would have to be excited about the prospect of coming to this team. I would love to have him and I'm sure the price would be right on him.

he played for $2.6m last season--17 goals, 31 assists

A look back at the defense on the last Sabres team to make the playoffs

- Michael Pachla

big risk in keeping the new core

foligno, ennis, girgens, gorges, larsson

yeah we were suppose to tank, but these guys have been around since we were suppose to get better, and we got worse in year 2 (last year)

upgrade upfront and really hope housely can do some magic with a few of the young guys here
- IndianaSabresFan

We need to give Housley a chance to work his magic. Antipin is the wild card, Bogos, Beaulieu, McCabe, and Fedun will all benefit from Housleys guidance.

Risto can improve greatly under Housley making him supremely valuable.

Gorges I am up in the air on still. Could we see glimpses of his glory days in Montreal under Housley or is he done?

stipulation of his contract.. 3/4 of each games salary goes towards betting on the sabres to win.. motivation to play harder and he loves gambling.. win/win

i wouldnt' consider and of those part of the core...

eichel, ROR risto.. thats all we have for a core right now.. you might be able to throw in Okposo and McCabe but thats even a stretch to me.

I think JB should be patient, but if he goes into next year with the same roster, and we end up a bottom 10 team, people will literally lose their minds.

It's time to start getting better.

Get rid of anyone who isn't in the long term plans, like now.

with the cap

you can't pay foligno 2.7 if your keeping kane at 5.5 or 6 per long term

and it's 3 year deal for foligno or 1 year and ufa now

i would think that if GMJB thought we were further along he wouldn't have picked the longer term project in the 1st round like he did.. but maybe i am wrong

Ugh I really hope not. Our only UFA forward is Gionta though, so whatever the forwards look like on July 5 is what we have. Tough to get people excited about 11 of 12, or possibly 12 of 12 of the same forwards as last year. I really don't want to watch Girgs falling down for 82 games, but it's looking more and more likely

i wouldn't read too much into that, i think they were just looking for the best player/highest ceiling
