I don't understand how people don't want him

He scores 5 on 5 better than any of our D, scores on the PP and can move the puck. This is the literal description of what we are missing

- sbroads24

If he's a number one defenseman (Idk, is he?), then you've got to pay him like one. A guy that puts up points like that is going to get paid.

We need him, or a guy like him, like you said.

And a guy like that takes a TON of pressure of Risto, McCabe, etc

Build from the net out and Shattenkirk might be a good start it's just his price tag is high.

You know the age of Shattenkirk and Alzner ?
- SABRES 89

Shattenkirk is 28...which for dman is just coming into prime.....he is a good player and would fill the #2 role next to Risto perfectly.... take the money out of the equation and I would love to have this pair of d-man. It not my money, so I say go for it.

I'm also of the opinion that the new system will reveal some major improved play from the backend.

Just like any D like him on this team would be . Question is, do we chance it ?

his best years are probably this year and next, makes sense for a contender to pay big. not a team that just finished 5th last

and to add to my last post if we add Shattenkirk we added 3 new d-man who are very mobile... unlike the previous 3. Increased team speed will do wonders for better play in the d-zone.

Hard to say, Botterill may fly under the radar, he may sit and wait to see what comes along for Saturday. Gotta look at Shattenkirk if he's still there.

Better than what we had .

We need points from them. What we had , doesn't do it . Best defense is a productive offence

At first I hated the idea of signing the past tense of poop(shat).

But at 28, for 7 years at 7 million, his contract ends when he is 35, which is honestly a good duration and end.

However, its the same problem as with ROR. You sign a guy at 28 who I doubt he gets us over the hump and you waste a good 2 years of his prime with the current state of the team, which, IMO, is still missing the playoffs for the foreseeable future.

At 35, defenseman either fall off the face of the planet, or they find a way to play in a league where 90% of the opposition is faster. At this point you either get smarter from your experience or have to learn angles and anticipate things, or in other words, dictate the play.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are among the teams highly interested in defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, who can hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent July 1.
The Leafs, along with the New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils, are among the teams in pursuit of Shattenkirk.

As with most free agents, I think teams don't worry about that magic age of 35. With wheels like his, he'll probably play at a high level for 5 years. I say, worry about the last two years when he's 33.

That being said, he'll sign somewhere else

Shattenkirk turned down a 42 mill offer from the Bolts in January.
