No, it's just that I think if your top pair is going to match up with the opponents best players, it should be Provorov-Gudas. I think Gudas will do a better job in that spot than anyone else currently on the roster. If they don't make any moves, I have no problem with a 2nd pair of Hagg/AMac and a 3rd of Morin/Ghost, but I don't think any of those 4 have any business playing on a top pairing at this point in their careers

I think Hagg is going to surprise you.

Yeah he looks like he could be a steady player back there. I'm also really curious to see how Sanheim & Morin look at the NHL level.

I think I may be most excited for Sanheim, whenever he does make the jump.

Read my later post. It has nothing to do with Hagg's capabilities and I can see him in that role possibly as early as late next season. But going by the way Hakstol has coached since he's been here, I can't see any way that Hagg is on the top pair for game 1.

He and Myers both. Not sure who ends up on the top pair with Provorov when it all shakes out, but I really do think that Ghost, Myers, Sanheim, Hagg and Morin will all be top 4 guys.

Yeah, probably and I expect one of them to be dealt for another good forward at some point. But I stand by what I posted earlier, from what I've seen and what I've read about each of these guys, I really do believe that all will top out as top 4 players.

Oh, sure. Game 1, I totally understand.

But in terms of once those pairings "normalize" if you will, I think Hagg will be an excellent partner for Provorov.

Hagg reminds me a lot of both Marco Scandella and Anton Stralman.

Even though the goaltending situation appears bleak right now and it's tough to find Hextall's logic..it seems to have paid off for expansion draft purposes. Still would've liked Hextall to be more opportunistic with all the goalies that were available to him through Vegas.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...-prospects-ongoing-talks/

McPhee explained that he and the rest of his staff were also hoping to focus on acquiring more goalies via expansion, but weren’t able to.

“Interestingly enough, when we went through the draft, we were looking for those young goalies that maybe we could claim and still get through waivers and have develop in the American league but they weren’t there. Most of those players were exempt,” he said. “We thought we’d be able to get five goalies, two at the NHL level and three working their way up in the minors, but that wasn’t there to do. So we loaded up on defencemen and we had to move some of them.”

Schenn was just traded. He's 25 years old. He is a kid. What's the purpose of trading him and bringing in players who you hope can be his equal 4-5 years from now? Not to mention taking a ridiculously overpaid Lehtera back.
Does Hextall think he has this job for a decade +? I mean this is year 4 now they were a playoff bubble team when he took over, and they are in the same boat now. What is the short term plan for the goaltending? Have two journeyman and punt the next two seasons? Banking on one of these goalie prospects being a legit franchise guy is fools gold.

If this was a full tear down rebuild what Hextall is doing, why are Giroux and Voracek still on the team? Let me guess, no one would touch their contracts with a 10 foot pole.

- PLindbergh31

I believe Hextall traded Schenn because he or/and Hakstol wanted to move on from him. A lot of people complained about Schenn's 5 on 5 play and lets be honest, we have all complained about the one common denominator over the last 3-4 years....the players. maybe Hextall Felt like he needed to shake up the core and Schenn was the odd man out. this isn't about the short term. If given the choice of 3-5 yrs of rebuilding to have many yrs of success i am on board. I'm sick of the old way. 2010 was awesome but it was also a one and done. I can't say it enough that you win building thru the draft. Obviously you have to draft well but I do believe that is the way to go.

as far as Jake and Giroux, yes those contracts are probably not tradeable. Hextall inherited several really bad contracts he has been able to move and with kids coming along on ELC that makes the Voracek and Giroux contracts easier to deal with. I expect Giroux to be better and more so i expect Voracek to be much better. there is no reason why they can't be the veterans to the young kids coming up like Briere and Hartnell were.

Lastly the goalies.....let me ask, who are the best goalies in the league? Price, Lundqvist (obviously getting older now), maybe Murray? how did those teams get guys like that? The draft. Hextall has stockpiled goalies and several of them are highly thought of. like it or not because of how long it takes, that is how Hextall is choosing to build this organization. you draft kids and outside of a few players, it takes most 2-4 years to make it to the NHL. EDIT: THIS COMING SEASON we should see this:

Sean Couturier 24
Shayne Gostisbehere 24
Robert Hagg 22
Travis Konecny 20
Scott Laughton 23
Oskar Lindblom 21
Samuel Morin 22
Nolan Patrick 19
Ivan Provorov 20

when was the last time we had 9 kids under 25 on the team?

when was the last time the Flyers had this deep of a prospect pool?

I get being frustrated because most people here haven't see a cup in their lifetime. But when Hextall came in and said it was going to be about building thru the draft, well, it was going to be a longer process.

exact reason why I wanted to protect Stolarz. based on what the Flyers had to offer, i really felt there was a risk of losing him.

He should have claimed more goalies anyway. Several teams are looking for at least 1 goalie. I think he'd have a much easier time moving two of Pickard, Ullmark, and Grubauer than moving two of Sbisa, Garrison, and Emelin.

Great post, as to your question I bolded, my guess would be 84-85

Lindsay Carson
Ron Sutter
Rich Sutter
Rick Tocchet
Peter Zezel
Derrick Smith
Murray Craven
Joe Patterson
Len Hachborn
Dave Brown
Tim Kerr

All 11 of those forwards were under 25 at the start of the season (Kerr turned 25 in January). In fact, I believe Poulin and Sinisalo were, at 26, the oldest forwards on the team which is just mind blowing!
