Somebody is using the Pens as leverage to squeeze out more from the interested team... no way this makes sense. - hipcheck_goalie
I was thinking the same exact thing about the Flyers. No way Duchene makes sense for Philly. |

why is it that no matter who the player is being discussed, you always say "send them hornqvist". why is he always involved? with kunitz leaving, who else plays in front of the net? unless someone coming back is that net front presence, i let horny play out his contract. |

The leading post season goalscorer, Guentzel, played in front of the net. Wilson plays in front of the net, Rowney plays in front of the net.
There is players who are usually on three different lines. |

Because Hornqvist is a good hockey player who is also expendable, making him a fantastic trade chip that people would be realistically interested in.
People are overvaluing exactly what Hornqvist brings as a net front presence. Lets stop and think what this actually means. Hornqvist will be put on one line, and his net front presence will be limited to that line's minutes. As things stand, he's lost his spot next to Crosby or Malkin, so this great net front ability that he has is going to be limited to the third or fourth lines, where his screens and attacking of rebounds will be marginalized as he will not be working with elite offensive talents anymore. We have Reaves now and maybe ZAR who can do what Hornqvist does in the bottom six.
And as far as the PP goes, I honestly think Hornqvist is a net neutral on the PP. He can annoy the goalie, and that's great, but he absolutely kills the possession when he touches the puck because all he knows how to do is cycle. He doesn't have the hands or the IQ to do anything dangerous to take advantage of the man advantage when he gets the puck, which really limits our PP's ability to move around. Not to mention the various times he just botches PP zone entries. |

Too small. We can't have Guentzel play net front or else he'll get injured yata yata yata... |

Hornqvist issue is he lost top line with Crosby so he's expendable. He's not a great 4th line player. Not really the kind of guy who plays with Malkin. The college kid we signed has a similar style and is possibly ready this year. So he's basically a power play specialist right now since Crosby is best with sheary and guentzel.
We don't have extra centers or defenseman, but we are stacked with wingers. He's the oldest on a 1 year deal now. Also Reeves brings the snarl. He's just older and plays the same position as our organizational depth.
A lot of teams want a guy like him. So combo of easiest for us to replace and highest trade value. I think his main trade value is to a team looking for a guy to move at the tdl. Playoff grit with clutch goal scoring with get a nice asset back then. |

Hornqvist actually had more points than duchene last year. Obvious team effects. But if both were on expiring contracts I think hornqvist might have higher trade deadline value. Timely goals and grit have a high value then. |

I don't think we have enough money to acquire a contract like Duchene without giving salary back. |

You better hope Sakic didn't watch Matta play during the playoffs, otherwise Pens won't get more than a slice a of apple pie for him.
Pens have nothing that could interrest COL imo. - fidopro
F outa here! What do you know? Maybe we can trade one of our guys for 2 worse guys from another team? I bet that would give you some fire in yer loins. |

No way GMJR moves Horny and lets Kunitz walk. I don't get this, the guy terrorizes goaltenders, best net front presence in the league. I usually agree with your commentaries, but I think this one is way off base.

The fact some of you think, you can acquire Matt Duchene for Matta 1 for 1 makes this entire blog look like horse radish!! |

Nobody said that.
One fan said, "Honestly I'm not a huge fan of maatta straight up for duchene. Creates a big defensive hole for us I'm not sure how to fill. We can complain about maatta for many reasons but he's still a functional 2nd pairing defenseman. I've showered on his development some but at the same time he hasn't had issues that have set him back. If he works hard he should get better than he is now.....and a legit 2nd pairing dman still.
If duchene had a better contract i would Be more of a fan. This already takes from a weak spot of our team to cover a 3c."
In other words, he doesn't think we should trade one of our top 4 defensemen for a 3C regardless of value or if it is a reasonable trade. |

Larsson alone got Taylor hall, so maatta for duchene isn't as far fetched as some would think |

If you look hard enough and make stuff up to fit your narrative, you'll be successful!
Here is what Ryan Wilson (blogger) said about acquiring Duchene:
"There would obviously have to be more [than Maatta] to the trade.
My additional pieces would be the same ones I used in my hypothetical Tyson Barrie trade: Patric Hornqvist and a 1st round pick."
The other ONE fan said that he wouldn't trade Maatta straight up, not because he thinks Maatta is the second coming of Bobby Orr, but because he is one of our top 4 defensemen and it would take from an already weak position (hmmm...that sounds like an arrogant fan, huh?) just to fill the 3C. He also doesn't like Duchene's contract (also a reasonable point).
Seriously, where do you guys come up with this stuff? We read the same things, you know. |

Duchene will be a stud in Pittsburgh. They should not give up Sprong in a trade though.
I'd offer Maata and Sheary for him and Jarry could be the kicker to get a deal done. The Pens have picked up numerous high end goaltending prospects and Colorado just lost their talented backup. I think they would be interested.
Pens should still have room to sign Daley or Smith to fill in some defensive depth.

Pens don't need Duchene, not without moving Kessel or Hags.
No Joe Thornton either! Enough with the trade Horny crap also, I know RW would love a team full of analytic legend pacifists, but it's not the reality in the NHL!

Daley is in high demand right now. We'll need to find replacement for him and Hainsey. Brendan Smith had a bad playoffs. His value could be down. Nice 6th d-man to have. |

The truth is teams are loading up right now. Personally I think we should bring a couple new faces. I really like Barrie and Vatanen for our D but it seems unlikely. I value Bonino a lot and would try to re-sign him. If we can't, try Hanzal or Thornton. Duchene or Landeskog would be great. |

Wilsons a dork who thinks he is smarter than any other fan base and front office bc he pulls up a subjective chart as its some sort of ultimate trump card in whatever point he is trying to make.
Sakic isnt some idiot kid who doesnt know what he is doing....but don't let that change Wilsons narrative. He will just pick out the ROR trade and harp on Grigorenko but won't look at there other 4 pieces in the trade. (Zadorov, AJ Greer, JT Compher, and Cam Morrison)
Or won't look at how they turned bums like Martinsen and Berra into nice young pieces in Andrighetto and Grimaldi. You know undoing Patrick Roy mess of a roster that was design for his chip and chase style
Wilson will just keep on doing what he is doing, thinking hes an enlist hockey savant who just looks up charts and war on ice to inform his opinion like its gospel - DDM-Coga
So, who do you think would be a good trade for Duchene? Malkin? Crosby? Seriously, who?
