Why exactly so you think he's garbage? Put up 28pts last year with good fancy stats. Who you you rather get?
- HealthyScratch6

not a 29 year old turning 30 with a 4.5-5 caphit for the next couple years

Stay the course of rebuilding and development. If something good pops up, then go for it.

If we can pry the likes of trouba, brodin, fowler, dumba, vatanen, etc names that are 25 and under would be ideal. If the likes of Doughty ever pop up as an opportunity, theres another idea. None of these can happen and doesnt have to happen but thats alot of cap space wed be spending between zaitsev, demers, rielly and gardiner.. when we should be targeting someone elite or a young gun.

So you think demers is garbage and over rated but you want to offer Girardi a contract?

Esit: the guys who block a lot of shots tend to be on the ice for a lot of shots against.

Why you think florida wants to dump him after they just signed him? and dumped 2 forwards with big cap hits as well to vegas

It's gonna cost a lot to trade for most of the guys you mentioned. Demers just gives you a decent top 4 right shot dman while the young guys are still on cheap contracts. By the time his contract is up hopefully guys like liljegren, rasanen or any of the other young guys are ready to step into the tool 4.

still decent rhd vet on 3rd pairing at best, hes declined that much in blocking shots and being a pk specialist?
- Matthewz1992_

Yes. His ability to suppress shots is so bad that it doesn;t even register. That includes blocking shots and killing penalties.

He's garbage, and anybody who offers him a contract is worse for it.

When tracking shots against by position when he's on the ice, the number of unblocked shots in high danger areas skyrockets; nobody expects him to block a shot point blank of coursebut the fact that so many are given up is completely alarming.

And while we're talking "shut-down" guys, here's Alzner - note that the number of shots he gives up from in front of the net is horrific. This is your "stay at home, clear the net" kinda guy, who just so happens to bleed chances from point blank when he's on the ice on account of not clearing the net or shutting down anything...

Tallon didn't sign him. I'm gonna be honest I haven't watched him play much but just by looking at the numbers he looks like he'd fit well into the leafs top 4. In saying that looking at the same numbers marincin looks like a good option as well so what the f(rank) do I know.

We could only hope

But as average as they both are, both are significantly better than Girardi...

Marincin is relatively decent at shot suppression, mainly because his stick is about 25 feet long and nobody can get past him on the blueline...

... on the other hand, because his stick is about 25 feet long, he handles the puck like it's a (frank)ing live grenade and can't make a stretch pass to save his (frank)ing life. So all the other team needs to do is dump it past him on the other side and then watch while he pathetically tries to handle the damn thing...

What about Wideman? He'd probably go cheap on a 2-3 year deal, maybe 3M per.

Sadly I don;t have one of the unblocked shot charts for Demers - it;s done by Micah Blake McCurdy and behind a paywall, but he shows some on twitter.

As for HERO charts, check out "http://ownthepuck.blogspot.ca"... Most importantly, check out the default comparison for the website...

(As a quick FYI, Demers HERO chart looksd pretty decent - pretty similar to Gardiner's tbh
