Too much, it would hurt the team. Time will tell. - bixll
That would be something, eh?
McDavid's agent tells Chiapet that he wants an 8 yr deal for 77.6M, (cap hit of 9.7M per)
Chia will reply with "No way, we will give him 8 yrs at 104M and nothing less" |

Oh, I'm not trying to spin it in a positive way, was just poking fun at Chiapet's inability to manage player salaries.
I do think McDavid will get $13M per season and, yes it will hurt the team - PatC80
I doubt it
Like I just posted Sids deal was the same cap % ...also as the years go on the cap usually goes up...so it gets better every year |

So, matthews at 11? Marner at 8 nylander at 7.. Alzner at 6 maybe marner or nylander do bridge deals |

Always fun to do, especially now that he doesn't manage my team
It's not just bad for that team, but for every team. Worst for the Leafs due to young comps...that is the point I'm trying to make. When trying to resign Matthews he'll look at McDavid, Nylander and Marner might take a peak at Draisaitl and before you know it you have to trade one. |

he might
Saw someone mention when Sid got 8.7 his cap hit was about the same % as Mcdavid getting 13 now (around 17%)
He should get the max imo - senstroll
8.7 was the lowest the NHL would allow Sid to take.. I don't think that is the case here. |

That is too much, to me... You need quality players around your core to win....

I thought it had to do with the numbers 8 and 7, he was born August 7 1987, wears number 87, gets paid $8.7, can only count to 87 and his drinking cut-off point is when he reaches a 0.87 BAC |

It only went up the 75M this year because of players escrow.. Otherwise, it would still be at 73M |

Look it up before you give the - bixll
Look what up? How would the NHL have anything to do with the lowest number a player can sign for?
I tried looking it up and I can't find anything. Genuinely asking |

Like I stated last time... when has a team head for "cap hell" actually ended up in a situation where they lose top talent because of it? I don't think it's ever happened.
Edmonton wasn't going to be able to afford to have Eberle, RNH and Hall at the same time.
Chicago was going to fold because Kane, Keith and Toews took too much cap.
LA was toast.
etc etc.
Bettman allows players to get jock itch and disappear off the cap. It's not an issue for any team to walk around the rules. |

It's not that you lose your top talent, you lose the surrounding players that are so important to winning a cup and are restricted from making other moves to help get your team there. |

LA is not really toast, Quick was out almost all of last season..
The one thing that did hurt them was that some of their core players got really old, really fast. |
