I think Kadri is a bit of a pipe-dream but if it ends up that TOR doesn't have any other options to clear out money then I would love the guy. His penalty differential is fantastic. He's such a nag that he goads guys into taking penalties, it's a great quality. - eichiefs9
Like what you do to Capt. Poke at him until he wants to stuff your ass into a muffler. |

Interesting quote from Weight regarding Toews:
“He’s played himself into a great conversation,” Weight said of Toews. “We have some great depth on D and it allows you to do some things like we saw last week. Confident kid, great skater, puck mover. When you play like that you’re going to get a look for sure.” - kear20
He's gotta beat out Seidenberg and Pelech for the 3rd spot on the left side. That's a tall order for the kid, but another year in BPT where he'll probably be the #1 defenseman and run the PP might benefit him more than playing sporadically with the big club. |

True, but at least he's apparently on the right path. He's got the coach of the big club talking about him. |

Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to minimize the comments. His development seems to be going fine and it's looking like he's going to be a great pick and great value from a 4th rounder. |

Let's just hope he doesn't go Ho-Sang and sleep through an alarm.
If he keeps up the progress, he'll be with the Isles next year. I've never seen him play, so it's just based on what I've read and a few clips I've watched.
And I know you weren't minimizing comments. |

Not much of a surprise, but #Isles have no plans to host any free agents this week. Don't see them competing for the few big names available
Shouldn't come as a surprise.
I'd sign Grigorenko on a two-way deal. But he'll probably either go back to Russia or have someone take a shot at him on a one-way. |

As for Tavares, betting it was all smiles over at CAA and some groans in #Islses FO when McDavid numbers came out. JT's price just went up.
Arthur StapleVerified account @StapeNewsday 15s15 seconds ago
Feeling for months was that JT would command eight years and north of $10m AAV... Now? $12m per doesn't sound so crazy. |

I thought that's what we were paying Clutterbuck 5 mil a year for. |

$3.5M. And yeah, except Clutterbuck sucks at actual hockey. Kadri had 32g and 61pts last season. That's more 5 goals than Clutterbuck has scored in his last 3 seasons combined. |

Have not heard anything on trade front this week... COL wants a top-4, NHL-ready D in any deal. #Isles don't have that to offer anymore.
Arthur StapleVerified account @StapeNewsday 12s13 seconds ago
Guess we'll see if COL's ask changes. They wanted Hamonic in any package, from what I understand. |

I think it helps Toews that he is 23 and has some college experience and a year in Bridge. I can see him needing maybe a half year more of Bridge. |

Just to clarify, #Isles offer on Friday to COL was Hamonic/1st/prospect. COL wanted much more, as it has all along.
Arthur StapleVerified account @StapeNewsday 15s16 seconds ago
So #Isles went in a different direction with Hamonic and sold high on him despite only futures as a return.
Arthur StapleVerified account @StapeNewsday 44s44 seconds ago
I don't really think #Isles and COL have been close on a Duchene deal. Would've gotten done months ago if the offers had been closer.
Sakic is off his (frank)ing rocker
Cross Duchene off the list, find someone else...time to move on. Let Sakic either get an absurd haul from elsewhere or enjoy the egg on his face when he has to begrudgingly dress Duchene because he out-kicked his coverage on the ask.
Wonder what's going on with Galchenyuk. |

Kind of a silly debate but it's not solely based on talent. Clutch players, heart and soul players etc... There are many factors besides pure talent which of course is one big factor. Other than one playoff series I can't remember a time when Tavares could be described with any of those other qualities I mentioned which was kind of my point to begin with. Toews lead his team to those cups, scored some clutch goals in all of those series and willed his team to win at times. Kane is an other worldly talent with all of those qualities. Tavares to me hasn't proven a whole helluva lot to earn 10.5 a yr IMO. He'll get paid it bcs we really have no choice but it doesnt make it right. - Cptmjl
If he plays like he did in the Panthers playoff series on a consistent basis, he most certainly is worth it. |

Which makes the Hamonic for draft picks even more of a head scratcher........unless Sakic was demanding way more than Hammer, and Snow just gave up after a while. Because if the demand was Hammer, a first, and say, Nelson........most of us would have done it.
Edit: Just read subsequent post with Staples tweets..... Sakic is nuts, and Snow did what he had to do.... |

A full year of being the go-to guy without Pulock will do him good. He's the #9 defenseman right now, so he's got a hill to climb. |

If Snow traded Hamonic to Calgary because Sakic wanted Hamonic & then turned down all deals that included him, that would make it even better.
Snow: Joe, I'm not sure what else you want. I've made you several offers with Hamonic and you rejected them all.
Sakic: Well, i think I might want to keep Duch now. Maybe you could sweeten it a little.
Snow: *sigh*Let me get back to you Joe. *click*
Snow: Hey Joe, good news. I just traded Hamonic to Calgary. Go ahead and keep Duch. *click* |

Snow did the right thing here. 100%
Hamonic+1st+prospect is more than fair for 2 years of Duchene and the risk that he either may not sign or may cost a ton to re-sign. I'd rather go after Galchenyuk now. |

As I wrote last week, Barzal was strictly off the table in any Duchene deal. |

It's very fair. Hamonic and a 1st and Nelson would be more than fair. |
