because you dont think the best player on this team and a top 10 -15 player in the league should get paid what hes going to get paid? Reality check, if the isles dont pay him then another team will and this team will be back to square one. He is the face of the franchise and is respected league wide by other players. If he stays it brings legitimacy to the isles as a top player that could leave but stayed. All of that plus his talent/whatever term you prefer make him worth what he will get. One of the LighthouseHockey guys posed an interesting question on Twitter.. TOR is going to be in a bit of cap trouble due to bonus overages and needs to sign Matthews to a now-likely massive deal next year.

As a young player, that's what you want to do. Make the coach have some indecision whether to send you back or keep you with the big club. My guess is that he'll be back in the A this season, but good for Toews.

I think Kadri is a bit of a pipe-dream but if it ends up that TOR doesn't have any other options to clear out money then I would love the guy. His penalty differential is fantastic. He's such a nag that he goads guys into taking penalties, it's a great quality.
