One of the LighthouseHockey guys posed an interesting question on Twitter.. TOR is going to be in a bit of cap trouble due to bonus overages and needs to sign Matthews to a now-likely massive deal next year.

Giving them a 1st and 2nd round pick for Kadri would fill that 2C spot very nicely and let them shed some salary without adding any. Signed for 5 more years at a cap hit of $4.5M.
If we gave both CGY 1st and 2nd picks in '18, we'd have effectively traded Hamonic and a 4th for Kadri. I can dig that. |

You know me, I've already got towel in hand. However, if he does trade JT, I don't see any way he keeps his job. Trading him would signal the beginning of another rebuild. We've already seen year after year of muddling through, signing mid-level UFA's & starting rookies in the top-6. Since this one has taken 11 years to get half -way done, I can't see L&M giving him more time to start from scratch. Like you, I'm not starting over with this team if that's the route this goes. - Isleshockeyman
This is what has me worried. If JT won't sign this summer needs to be traded right away. His value drops the closer we get to the start of the season. I fear Snow will be his usual stubborn stupid self and won't trade JT until his value is draft picks at the deadline. My other fear is Snow will become desperate to add players to entice JT to sign and he will give away the store. |

I agree Jimmy. It's a tough spot and would be insane to wait too long on JT. |

Islanders are still in it for Duchene, but god (frank)ing help the Metro division if Pittsburgh lands Duchene. Crosby/Malkin/Duchene down the middle would be utterly (frank)ing insane. - eichiefs9
That somehow wouldn't surprise me. You'd pretty much all but hand them another cup. Pitt seems to be able to pull these kind of deals. |

Doesn't make any sense. They can sign Banino as a 3rd line center where he did a great job for the Pens, and they wouldn't lose any assets.
Oli maata is rumored to be going the other way in that trade and honestly that would leave a big whole on the Pens already thin blue line imho. Might be Rutherford throwing some barbs out there making Banino and his camp think about where he would rather play next year. |

Well now they're paying a very, very good goaltender next to nothing for what they're getting. They've proven that they can get by with only one true top defenseman and a ridiculously stacked offense. Adding Duchene would be absurd. Anyone can play and succeed with Crosby and Malkin, Kessel and Duchene as your third line C/W pairing would be insane. Those two flying around the ice would cause fits for other teams less-defensively-talented lines. |

If Sakic takes a deal where Maatta is the centerpiece then I will be dumbfounded. I know that's the rumor, but that's terrible. He's hurt all the time and he's honestly not very good. He got torched so many times in the playoffs.
I don't see why he'd be more attractive than something like CGY's '18 first and second, Dal Colle and Pelech. |

First we have to find out if the 1st in 18 and the 2nd in 19/20 are worthless or not
Well thats why your on here and Sakis the gM of the Lanche
Im hoping to see Dal Colle play Thursday but he would have to be a lot better than I have seen in the past to say he's even going to make it in the NHL let alone attract Sakis attention, imho.
Oli has 2 rings so its more than most can say. |

I too have heard the same. I was told that the reason the trade for Hamonic was made was so that we flipped those picks for Kadri. Toronto seems to want to make a move to clear up space.
I for one would love Kadri and it would not cost any prospects. I also heard something should be in the works in the next week or so

'18 is a deep draft, a non-lottery protected 1st is a big chip and the corresponding 2nd rounder is great too. Add in a good, not great, prospect like Dal Colle and a guy like Pelech (I'm flexible on this one) and you're getting a nice haul at a minimal cost to the salary cap. Cap flexibility is huge in this league now.
Maatta has two rings, but those are team accomplishments and shouldn't hold any weight when evaluating a player. Ladd has two rings, too. - eichiefs9
Unlike the 1st and 2nd round draft choices we trade, of course Crap shoot after the top 3 picks my friend, great players are obtained in every round, again a crap shoot. They are always assets and the foundation of every team. No one knows what pick in what round turns out as expected or fails honestly.
I like Maata, moves the puck quickly and I'm not a stats analyst but believe his possession numbers are good, Im sure you'll tell me if they are not nerd |

What's with all this nonsense about draft picks being worthless? You've been saying that for the last week or so. I'll take a guess and say some poster said that and you just keep beating it into the ground? - Vukota
I am not good enough to claim to know which draft picks after maybe the top 3 are home runs or failures however their are some who do know or have a 6th sense which if proven, every GM in the NHL would be fighting for their services.
Maybe it's a crystal ball they have, I don't know.
Edit: don't know why this is so dark, |

#Avs will NOT be "in on the big players" when free agency begins July 1, spokesman said, & GM Joe Sakic won't speak to media until then.
Mike ChambersVerified account @MikeChambers 15s16 seconds ago
How the Avalanche intends to fix this mess: "Build from within." So why were #Avs not aggressive last week in acquiring draft picks?
If they're going to "build from within" you have to think the Islanders have the most to offer, having gotten extra 1st and 2nd round picks in '18. |

He scored 100pts in 82 games in his first full season in the NHL at age 20.
Making less than Jonathan Toews is not sufficient. He is the next superstar and face of the league. That contract amount/term is perfectly acceptable, relative to what he provides. - eichiefs9
Just read McGuire thinks some teams will offer sheet Leon Draisaitl if McDavid signs that deal, maybe at the highest amount you can which is around 9.8 mil If Edmonton accepted that would be over 23 mil tied to 2 players thats a lot of dough |

I saw that but offer sheets don't really ever happen. Would suck for EDM if someone did it, but I don't believe that anyone will. I guess you never know though. |

Thats what they said about Toews and Kane, Crosby and Malkin and after 5 SC's I don't think they have any regrets . |
