As far as most improvement last year I definitely agree with you, mayfield didn't get caught flat footed much at all and looked like he could be a dependable bottom pairing guy. He was decent and much improved, no question.

I think Islanders management think Pelech has a lot of upside. We'll see this year how he progresses with a new coach.

I thought his skating was better last year. I'm hoping being away from Cappy's system will help even more. I want Mayfield playing over Hickey and Seidenberg.

Shorter term carries risk for the Oilers. I get the disdain for skipping the RFA years but he's invaluable and they're bypassing a lot of risk to keep him around for a long time.
