remember how bad dehaan was his second year? I'd play pelech over mayfield myself. He helped turned leddy's season around after hamonic was tied to leddy like concrete shoes going over the edge of a bridge. - Isles_since_6
I hope they both turn out great. Maybe neither will who knows but the player I saw the most improvement from was Mayfield. I know most don't agree. |

As far as most improvement last year I definitely agree with you, mayfield didn't get caught flat footed much at all and looked like he could be a dependable bottom pairing guy. He was decent and much improved, no question. |

I thought Mayfield had a number of good games. Hopefully Richardson can help him even more. |

If Mayfield wasn't slow as poop, he'd be a damn good defender. Only thing holding him back right now from being a regular top 4. |

That's the thing. His skating improved drastically the 2nd half of the season. I couldn't understand why everyone was so high on Pelech who to me was an absolute pile of garbage in our own end. |

Mayfield is serviceable for the type of player & salary he has. Seems like most want all-stars at every position.. |

Mayfield was the most physical of the d-men the Islanders had. Hopefully, he'll get better. |

I think Islanders management think Pelech has a lot of upside. We'll see this year how he progresses with a new coach. |

I thought his skating was better last year. I'm hoping being away from Cappy's system will help even more. I want Mayfield playing over Hickey and Seidenberg. |

Further to @TSNRyanRishaug McDavid mention, hearing deal will be around $13.25M for 8 yrs. Big win for EDM to get that term, as opposed to 5

fresh from the elc, let's ignore the fact he's an rfa and give him ufa money right away.
want to find the reason we'll have another lockout? this. the rfa status was supposed to allow teams to keep their good young player cost controlled, ufa status was when the player was supposed to get the opportunity for their biggest contracts while also giving them full control over where they'd play.
I know he's the next one, but there's absolutely zero reason they couldn't do a 3 year deal at 6 mil and then try and sign him to this deal at that point. |

Could not agree more 6. This hurts the entire league when doing things like this. |

And yet most every team is losing money.
Wonder why. Then again, if my boss was throwing money at me like that, I'm laughing all the way to the bank. |

Shorter term carries risk for the Oilers. I get the disdain for skipping the RFA years but he's invaluable and they're bypassing a lot of risk to keep him around for a long time. |

Garth should be taking calls on him. The fact that he isn't planning on signing by Saturday is extremely concerning. If he walks for nothing or his rights get traded for pennies on the dollar I'm throwing in the towel on this team. |

After Crosby he's the next one in my opinion. Matthews is amazing, but to me he's not McDavid. |
