As I wrote last week, Barzal was strictly off the table in any Duchene deal. - eichiefs9
Makes sense. |

It's very fair. Hamonic and a 1st and Nelson would be more than fair. - ses111
Well Staple said a prospect. My guess is Toews or Wotherspoon. Maybe even Pulock, but I doubt that. Hate him or hate him, Snow played this correctly.
Now Sakic's standing there with his di ck in his hand. I'd just keep low-balling him and see if he budges. If not, good luck Mr. Burnaby Joe. |

Which makes the Hamonic for draft picks even more of a head scratcher........unless Sakic was demanding way more than Hammer, and Snow just gave up after a while. Because if the demand was Hammer, a first, and say, Nelson........most of us would have done it.
Edit: Just read subsequent post with Staples tweets..... Sakic is nuts, and Snow did what he had to do.... - JohnScammo
According to what Chiefs just posted, Sakic wanted a hell of a lot more than the offer of Hammer, pick & prospect. |

Snow did the right thing here. 100%
Hamonic+1st+prospect is more than fair for 2 years of Duchene and the risk that he either may not sign or may cost a ton to re-sign. I'd rather go after Galchenyuk now. - eichiefs9
Yup. See my edit, too. Sakic is nuts. No wonder his team had the league's worst record. |

Garth did play this correctly. You cannot give up Barzal for a guy that can walk in two years. Giving up Barzal for someone like Drouin would be very different. |

Yep. There will be a tipping point that Sakic hits where the offers will continue to be less and dwindle. I'd laugh my ass off if he ended up holding on to him so long he only ended up getting a 1st & a mid-level prospect or lost him for nothing (don't see that happenin, but) |

I think Sakic is a (frank)ing moron and I also think a lot on here overrated Duchene but I would've included Toews or wotherspoon if I had too. Pulock no especially now bcs we need him also no to Barzal. |

Yeah he did. Especially if he sent Hamonic out of spite (as in Sakic didn't want to pull the trigger, so Snow did, using the guy that Sakic wanted). We all pretty much knew that Hammer was getting traded, it was just to what team. |

I don't know what other market there is for him.
NSH is the only team I can think of that: a) has the need and b) can afford to part with a top-4 defenseman. Have to think Ellis would be the guy they'd trade, because trading Subban/Josi/Ekholm would be stupid.
If Sakic balked at 1st/Hamonic/prospect there's no way he can possibly take Maatta back as a centerpiece from PIT.
I don't know who else is out there than can afford his cap hit, the cost of acquisition, and has the need. Maybe CAR? |

I really want JT back, but 12 mill is nuts anyway you look at it. |

AZ. But, they're not even close to being in a place where adding Duch would put them over the top as far as competitiveness goes. They've got the pieces and the cap space but definitely don't see that happening. |
