Maybe they really are that high on Daulphin?

As much as many here like to write off Tanner Kero, I think Coach Q has a lot of trust in him as a young, 200ft Center. Q played him a lot throughout last season. IMO, Kero can be an adequate 3C this year and maybe Dauphin slots in at 4C? He's not Nick Bonino, but he is responsible and a good skater.

So you liked the 4-0 sweep by Nashville.

Must be related to Stanley?

I don't expect Kero to go anywhere. He was re-signed to a reasonable contract and is a serviceable 4th liner/13th forward.

He played all over the lineup from line 2 (when Anisimov was injured) to line 4. I'd pencil him in to either 3C or 4C based on last year's usage and the current Center Depth Chart. TWT what StanBo has up his sleeve and how that changes things....

Not to mention Keith and Seabrook were not Tallon draft picks

Say it ain't so, Moose.

Wonder if he just wants out of the Hawks organization?

Moose on the loose?

I wouldn't think he wants out of the organization, why would he after he kept re-signing in the past? He probably just wants more than the Hawks are willing to pay and that's fair.

Posters have asked about a long term plan. I think the operating model of the Hawks and other teams has evolved. Right now the plan is to:
1) Sign your core group for the long term
2) Try to find high end bargains/values (Panik, Panarin, Darling). At the end of their first contract try to sign them to a reasonable short term contract leaving open the possibility of trading them off in a year or two.
3) Fill in the rest of your roster with young players, journeyman veterans, or players that want to take a discount to play for team that has a legitimate chance to win the cup.

We can argue about how much the the Hawk's situation has been exacerbated by overpaying Toews, Kane and Seabs. We can also argue the necessity of NMC/NTC's which limits the teams ability to reshape their roster on the fly.

But the operating model is sign the core and then every year figure on having to make some tough decisions on which players you want to lose.

Haha. True.

I guess I was thinking he might test FA.

He might feel the Hawks have not or are not going to give him a fair shot. They just see him as 4th line fodder. He would like a change of scenery.

The Hawks may also feel that a change of scenery would do him good and told him to explore his options. A classy move.

Like you said he is a 4th line player, therefore replaceable.

For a guy that's fortunate to have a gig in the NHL, I have trouble believing that. Especially when you consider the first class treatment Rocky gives his players.

As I said...good luck to him.

I'm not arguing for Kane, but I have been told what the rationale is: one year left on his deal, playing for a new deal, has shown some recent signs of maturing . . . because he has what they want on the ice.

I have also heard the $$ are tricky so might not happen.

Not like they have to buy him out ever though because they could probably move him at the DL for a 7th round pick somewhere if they had to.

Team source told me last night they see Debrincat-Schmaltz-Kane as a disaster in the making as they'd gut pushed around like the Little Sisters of the Poor.

- John Jaeckel

Hahaha. Thats a lot of wee men. But didnt a midget line of rookies do OK in Tampa that one time?

Yup. Which of these feels better:
Kane/Schmaltz/Debrincat
Kane/Schmaltz/EKane.

I like the 2nd (though it costs about $4m more).

He has been given plenty of chances to prove his worth and he has proved that he is actually................................4th line fodder.

He did trade for Versteeg, Sharp, Madden.
Traded away Havlat, who was constantly injured.
Signed Hossa, hired Q.

Tallon had some good moves too, but to lay all 3 cups at his feet as the troll-y dude was doing is very silly.

Didn't trade Havlat. In fact, wanted to keep him and did not want Hossa. Hossa was a Scotty Bowman coup...as was Q

I like Gagner if he is on the third line and fills in top 6 when there is an injury. If he is relied on to be top 6 all year I would be more concerned. To me this should be the goal if Gagner is included

Saad-Toews-Panik
Galchenyuk/Palat/Someone of this level-Schmaltz(or kick him to the left if you get another guy-Kane
Gagner-guy-Hartman

Fair request, for sure. AFAIK, no convictions either through guilty plea or trial. I look at it this way: there was enough to charge him and arrest him (not true with P Kane in 2015). There was more than one woman and a bouncer reporting issues on the night that led to the arrest. There was also another allegation by another woman of a worse nature.

With P Kane, I was following along in excruciating detail until it was resolved as he is one of my favorite Hawks. I said if another woman came forward with similar allegations or another similar story, I would write him off, no matter what the ultimate outcome of the known incident. Similar to Bill Cosby, if there are multiple reports, I tend to believe there is a pattern there.

HOWEVER, I would like nothing more than for E Kane to not be what it looks like he might be. For his sake, his team's sake, and the people he is around. IF the Hawks take a flyer on him, then fine, but I'm not going to be shocked at all if there is another incident.

Like I said to someone yesterday, we can agree to disagree, and I'll hope that all of you are correct that he has no remaining issues.

Won't bring it up again...if the non-directly-related-to-hockey talk has bothered people, my apologies.

The Law sees it differently. That is why when there is a Complaint or even a Charge the Accused isn't just given a sentence and put in jail. All Accuseds are entitled to due process. Pro atheletes would be wise to stay out of situations where problems are even remotely possible. So has Evander Kane been wise? No. Has he acted criminally? Also No.

Jack Han‏ @ml_han

interesting idea from @FriedgeHNIC. CHI has never had a RH slot player who's been any good on 131PP. gagner or debrincat would be an upgrade
