No Greene was a good defenseman. In his prime he's a great 3-5 defensman. We had no choice but to make him a number 1 and now age is catching up to him. |

That's arguably two 3rd pair d-men on the 1st pairing. Let's get a Schultz or Shattenkirk in here ASAP...we need the help bad. |

Greene-Lovejoy
Moore-Severson
Mueller-Santini
Helgeson, Prout
Until Ray proves me wrong, that's our D. - smellmyfinger
What an absolute goat (frank).
I like Mueller - Santini but two guys with very limited NHL experience seems dangerous. No more dangerous then playing Moore or Lovejoy anywhere.
I miss Kyle Quincey and David Schlemko so much! How sad is that??? |

Greene has to play the hardest minutes on the team with lovejoy as his partner. I'd love to hear a dman that has a worse partner going up against top lines. |

Schultz would be alright for cheap enough. Hard no on Shattenkirk. |

Pointing fingers at past regimes is pointless and petty but, i'm going to do it anyway. How Lou and his cronies ever let our defensive prospect pool become such a poop show is beyond me. We don't have a single blue chip defensive prospect in the farm system. Our defense wouldn't even rank in the top 10 in the AHL, much less the NHL. Shero has had 3 years to correct the issue and so far the most noticeable move was shipping away Lars, our one bright defensive light in a sea of darkness. Considering our lack of true NHL caliber defenders, are shortage of attractive trade resources, and the fact that this years UFA market is the thinnest in recent memory, there really isn't much Shero can do short term to fix this problem. I fear we may be entering an Islander / Maple Leaf like rebuild that spans decades and not seasons. |

I know we need offense from the back end and to help the transition game but his defense isn't good and we already struggle defensively, not worth the contract it would take and the years |

I do agree that Lou and Conte F'd up big time. However, Shero has had two drafts were he could of picked a dman, but choose not to and that is on him, not Lou or Conte.
Provorov AND Chychrun were the guys he should of picked, but this is coming from defense first kind of guy. The Devils will have to build this team from the D out, because their aren't two players like Crsoby and Malkin that would make a mediocre D not worrisome unless it's PIT and those players are not available to the Devils.
Shero is behind two years IMO. |

Take a flyer on Grigorenko from the Avs, former first rounder. Big center who has fallen out of favor. Grigo is only 23 yrs old. 10 goals 12 assists last year. I would like to see him with maybe Noesen and another big body like Bastian. |

This is spot on. As long as Lovejoy plays anything over bottom pair minutes and PK, we have isssues. |

Ok gents, looks like John Davidson is speaking with Kovy's agent.
What is an acceptable return from the Jackets?

Ask for nick foligno, i know we need defenseman, but regardless of who we overpay for this defense isn't improving overnight, so why not try and simply outscore the other team, probably won't work but at least they will entertaining? Seems to work for the capitals? |

Would rather build a deal around Murray, Carlsson, or Bjorkstrand, than get Harrington plus something else of decent value. One of the first three and a swap of conditional picks would make me pretty pleased |

You're off base with your projections. Greene was a top-pairing defender for a few years, but his value came from being shutdown guy who could provide some offense too. Basically a better version of Niklas Hjalmarsson and with more offense. Of course, since it's NJ he didn't get the credit he deserved and he's declined over the last 2 seasons. This past season he would've fit better as a 2nd pairing guy, but was asked to take on top-line minutes. This year he'll likely be asked to handle the same, and I don't expect it to go well at all. |

As Todd pointed out on twitter, Murray is not very good. IDK about Carlsson. I'd probably do that. |

You have no idea what you're talking about. Washington allowed the fewest goals in the league and were 5th in shots against. |

I'd be open to giving him another shot under a different system. His injury history worries me more than his underlying numbers. The other two would likely be better pickups though, you're right |

Sometimes you've just got to forget about where a guy was drafted and understand the player they actually are. Murray is just nowhere near where he was hyped to be and he's not going to do better in NJ than in Columbus, a team that actually has good defensemen who can eat up the toughest minutes.
On another note, good lord that 2012 draft is all over the place. |

Jenner or Bjorkstrand, CBJ doesn't have any D worthwhile except for Jones who they won't trade and is worth way more than Kovy. Then flip excess forwards for D help. |
