I had the Ottawa brawl on VHS. It was my senior year of high school, there was some stupid thing going on at school that I didn't really want to go to but there was some girls there so I went. Taped it and watched it over and over for the next year and a half because of the lockout.

Chara took on Mattias Timander and Timander got the worst of that. Of course there's the classic Spezza v. Sharp where Sharpie pounded him into his submission. Sean Van Allen V. Branko Radivojevic. Danny Markov coming to the rescue of someone I can't remember who was getting punched while on the ice. Man I loved Markov, he was great. Many more great memories. Who was left at the end? Burke, Gagne, Desjardins (?).

Edit: Alexi Zhamnov didn't drop them, pretty sure he was still on the bench. Was Malakhov dressed that game? He didn't go with anyone.

I remember Claude LaPointe took the SH faceoff after Sharp/Spezza. I believe Flyers had 3 guys left on their bench, Ottawa had 4. Still not sure why Ottawa felt the need for a brawl.

I'm not too knowledgable about the details of bonuses, or the likelihood that the players will actually hit them. We know how much max potential bonuses a player can earn, but are we privy to what the specific bonuses are? Is it factored in just at the end of the season, or if a player hits one, does it factor into the daily cap at a specific time? Would trading a player at the deadline to free up a couple mil be enough, if need be?

Anyway, yes, we will need room for bonuses. I also forgot that it was announced last week the cap went up $2 mil. I created a team, and you can see we're right up against the cap, and I don't believe the bonuses are factored in. Sending down MacDookie, which I did but am skeptical happens, yields an additional $200k. But trading someone like Read (who would take him at full cost?) or Raffl or the mysterious individual mentioned in my other post still seems like a plausible scenario to free up an additional $2-3+ mil so we're not up against it completely. Goalie is also a position up in the air. If we just sign some crap goalie like Bernier, a likely scenario, he might only cost $2.5 mil.

The only information we have is the total amount of bonus money in a contract. The amount is limited under the CBA for each category. We don't have the parameters for obtaining the bonuses though for the most part. That's not usually made public knowledge. Teams can use the bonus cushion to remain cap compliant but any bonus money earned that can't fit into this seasons cap must be carried over to next years cap. Obviously the Flyers want to avoid that. There is multiple ways for them to avoid that including moving players out at some point in the season to create the cap space needed to cover any earned bonus money.

The performance bonuses can vary depending on where a player gets picked. But they're usually based on G/A/P/Ice Time/Games played/accolades. There was a breakdown for Auston Matthews here:
https://twitter.com/CapFr...status/756189534266818560

Either way, CapFriendly notes the max potential, not what they will actually earn. I think it is highly unlikely that all the rookies the Flyers have will come to fruition. As for when it hits, it comes at the end of the season, and anything that can't fit has to roll over to the following season. So the Flyers could trade away some guys at the deadline to clear up space if they are near the cap. Tampa Bay did that this season, essentially refusing to take back salary in trades so the bonuses didn't roll over to next year. Flyers situation is less dire anyway, so they can probably roll it over if they need to.

However, not putting AMac in LHV makes up the 4 million I requested, which is what I think will happen. So if they don't sign Williams and cheap out on a goalie, you are talking lots of cap space

edit: cap $$$pace

I think it is a pretty safe bet that the Flyers will start the season with at least 5 million in cap space. So yeah...stop worrying about if Jordan Weal gets 1.75 million instead of 1.25

There was a ton of hype leading to that game because of the Havlat/Recchi incident. Hitch made a comment about someone making Havlat "eat his lunch". Recchi said some disparaging comments about Havlat and the kind of player he was. I think with that kind of stuff, coupled with the fact that Ottawa was down two goals with not a lot to play, seeing Brashear dominate big bad Rob Ray pissed off everyone and they felt they needed to step up for "honor" or whatever dumb macho bullcrap they felt was on the line.

I'm not and never have been a huge fan of fighting. Even as a kid, it didn't even register on my list of why I loved the game. But even I'll admit that circus was entertaining. Seeing Brashear still yapping while standing in hall was priceless. Like, who on Ottawa was skating by saying anything to him?

Entertaining, but kinda glad that doesn't happen anymore. It's useless, WWF nonsense for the most part.

Really depends on how much they spend on another goalie. Assuming certain players such as Laughton make the team, and if Weal is signed to 1.75M, that leaves them at about 7.7M of cap space before adding another goalie.

what a poop show, nfg.

28 shots alone in the first period. there were probably a few that got missed.
there were at least 6 breakaways where they just missed (or rather, i forced them to miss).

sucked losing like that, but i had a lot of fun. at this age as much as i like to win, i'd rather have more work than stand around for an hour.
