Leafs addressed a need with Timothy Liljegren. He can skate, has a great first two steps, and has vision on the ice, a-la Erik Karlsson. Has an accurate shot, and can definitely Quarterback a Power-play. He is not a liability on Defense either.
The reality is, when you don't play hockey for 2 months, and you come back and are a bit rusty (at times), your draft value could drop. it was an easy Scouting-Evaluation for Scouts who saw a player that wasn't living up to the Hype he had, just 9 months earlier.

If Liljegren has a solid 2017-18 season in Sweden, expect him to make the Leafs line-up in 2018-19. His style of play is something that you don't need to nurture in the minor leagues for 3 seasons.

Eemeli Rasanen, who was chosen 59th by the Leafs, also looks like a guy who can contribute at the NHL Level as early as 2018-19.
He stands at 6'7" 215lbs. Plays a solid tough defensive game, and has offense to his game too. has a powerful shot and his reach is amazing to watch. strong comparisons to Zdeno Chara and fellow Fin, Rasmus Ristolainen.
If he has a strong campaign with Kingston, i could see him having a legit shot at making the Leafs next season. For him, its going to come down to skating improvements. not to mention, th kid has a physical game.
In 10 years, Rasanen could be one of the standouts in his draft-class.

yup... but for the Leafs the last few years have been quite the bonus ... Marner 4th overall, Nylander 8th overall... Brown in the 5th/6th round.... heck even the signing out of KHL (Zaitsev) was a huge bonus.

I can understand how the Habs would feel its all baloney... with Galcheyuck, the only one still with the Habs... and guys like McCarron and Beaulieu... it must be disappointing. But hang in there... once you sign Radulov for 7M$ for six or seven years... all will be good.

Has anyone noticed a trend in Leafs Nation since Mark Hunter was given the green light for the Maple Leafs drafting?

We all have guys who look really good.

We all have guys who will make the big club.

Although in fact, we all are just ignoring the ugly reality - most of these guys will never play in the NHL.

Remember when Dubas stole Nikita Korostelev in the 7th round of the 2015 entry draft?

but if you look at the new Brass in Toronto, more times then not, they are picking solid, Future NHL'ers. the faith is there in their drafting decisions...something that we havent had in Toronto, in ages.

Rasanen is the type that I am hesitant about. When guys are that big they remind of a kid from my high school. Taylor Doherty. He was/is massive so he coasted through the years (12-18) where most other kids were developing. He was touted as another Chara. He wasn't a very good skater but he could manhandle most other kids due to his size/height/reach. Then, all the other kids were men with strength and speed and poof, he was very very average. (Also, see; Crouse, Lawson)

I hear you...which is why he probably went in the 2nd round. Having said that, there is strong Offense in his game. he lead all OHL Rookie D-Men in scoring (66games 39 points).

This is a guy who is either going to be crap, or could be a solid top-4 NHL D-Man.
