IMO, we already have 3 Centers for next year: Zib, Hayes, Boo. I see no reason to sign an overage 4C just to take playing time away from a younger player that can improve as the season goes along.
I see a top pair righty Dman as our #1 priority, but do not want Shatty at his 6+ years and $7M+.
I am really hoping we can see Graves in the lineup this year. I would rather us trade for players like the sedins who are higher paid but we could probably get a 3rd round pick to take them. or maybe thomas plekanic.. something like that. take a bad contract that has short term on it and get an additional asset in return. |

that is the interesting part of it all though. the way the NHL is set up, it helps to suck in order to succeed later. rebuilding on the fly is noble and all, but is it effective? we will see. It certainly helps to get lucky and hit on a 2.2% chance - YuenglingJagr
That's why I'm not a fan of the term "Rebuilding on the fly" From 2012 and until now the Rangers were competing. Yes they had to trade first round picks for the likes of Yandle and MSL. Depth picks for Smith etc. But when you rebuild on the fly you no longer commit to winning now and you also afraid to announce your team is no longer good enough so you need an actual rebuild. Thus you end up the Sabres have been for years. |

Rangers letting Dan Boyle, Dominic Moore, Stalberg to let our young guys like Vesey, Skjei, and Lindberg play full time is an example of rebuilding on the fly. Trading 29 year old Brassard for 24 year old Zibanejad also fits the bill.
We're getting younger without necessarily getting worse. |

The next rebuilding piece is getting Draisaitl to replace 50 year old Stepan. |

Because I want new young blood, not slow weak retreads for the 4th line.
Come on man, I figured you would be on board with this. You were all about blowing up the D and getting some younger guys in there - mdw7413
I wouldnt call him slow or weak.. just isnt a bruiser. Im not like hootin and hollerin to get him back but I dont see the reason for all the hate.

That's not rebuilding. 2 guys past their usefulness(Not a shot at Moore, just time to move on) and one guy who was terrible for players you've already had in the system and 1 college UFA is trying to make your team better and younger.
Rebuilding is admit that your team's window is in fact shut, the roster needs turnover and you're going to embrace being bad for a while.
Not the same thing at all. |
