LeBrun says Panthers are trying to trade Jason Demers. RHD, 4 years left at $4.5 mil. 9 goals and 28 points last year. Probably better value than Shattenkirk. They want a top-six forward in return.

Why the heck would we trade a top six forward for a worse defenseman than Shattenkirk when we can keep the top six forward and sign Shattenkirk for no assets

He's a better defender than Shattenkirk, cheaper, and if the Rangers have a surplus of anything it's forwards.

The rangers don't even have a 3rd or 4th line center let alone a "surplus of forwards".

How is this team with Demers and no Kreider/Miller better than this team with Shattenkirk while keeping Kreider/Miller? 6mm for Shatty isn't much more than 4.5mm for Demers, and Shatty is the type of defenseman we need to fill multiple holes.

Do people not remember Shattenkirk ripping wrist shots over Hanks shoulder while he was a Blue? This Shattenkirk is a scrub dialogue came out of nowhere and I don't understand.

Ok, that's fine. Demers is much less offensively talented than Shattenkirk but is more responsible defensively. He is signed to a reasonable deal - cheaper than what Shattenkirk will want - and I thought he would be selected in the expansion draft. The issue is that assets it will cost, which likely is why a deal with Florida won't get done. This coming from someone who has been a 'Kirk fan since he was originally drafted and still believes NY has heavy interest in him.

Acquiring any defenseman that costs assets is a total waste in my opinion unless a deal with Shatty can't be worked out.

But even then, our forward unit just went from deep and stacked to missing 2 key guys in stepan and Lindberg. Dealing any other top 6 guys like Miller or Kreider just creates more holes

Yes we CAN do this. but not sure i want to do that for Shatty. If we sign Shatty and Smith - That means Day is not making the team this and possibly next year. We would HAVE to move Staal. I like the Thorton # though.

Shatty wont sign for $6M, up it to $7M and you can start the conversation. though at $7M i want nothing to do with him.

Didn't realize you were his agent

You could be right. Wouldn't be surprised if Buffalo offers 7.5mm honestly.

Do they still have interest in him from what your hearing?
I really thought dealing Stepan, without taking $ back was a possibility of him still coming here.
