Whoa horsey! ...and what teams did those guys play for to earn those +/- stats? Stop it.
- mames11

Also great points. Carolina and Arizona have been abysmal compared to St. Louis.

Wow. That's a nice stat

In addition to that fact on Shatty, there are 12 NHL d'men that have cap hits between $5.5M to $6.5M (the ideal Shatty value). Of those 12 d'man, 10 also have some sort of CLAUSE in their contract. That would also more than likely be the case among Shatty's demands.

Shattenkirk is a meh to me. Price will be high, but the Rangers have to view as necessity. If not your stuck with Wiseman, Franson or Stone.

Just...say...no...

Have the Rangers not learned what these clauses do to you? Players love them...teams get crippled by them.

It's a rough spot. Skip this years free agent defensemen and likely have issues competing or grab one and have issues in the future.

Wow all this trade Miller trade McDonagh talk if that's the case trade Nash and Hank too Frank rebuild on fly just totally rebuild it. No point in keeping them around if come free agency we are gonna sign bottom barging FA . crazy how much hate Shatty has on this thread guessing it's his age cause if he was 24 I doubt people would be so against it.

The other two yea, but I saw something that said Stone played very well after leaving that dog fart place of Arizona. He's possible. Unfortunately, they aren't gonna magically find a RHD under a rock somewhere so they gonna have to get someone

After trading Raanta to AZ., the word in Winnipeg this past weekend was that any trade of Trouba to the Rangers would involve as was the asking price last season, Skjei as part of the return, unless a third team became involved who has a similar capable backup if not a starter, to head to Winnipeg.
That's why it is down to Shatty only being available to suit their second urgent need in a RH offensive d'man, after their first must is to re-sign Smith, & third, to acquire more help at center, along with some grit at wing. The Rangers power play was only a horrendous 7.7% during this past 2 round postseason.
For those Shatty haters, despite if he were even to sign for just a maximum of $6M for only a 5 year term instead, in the combined 5 past NHL postseasons, only one d'man has more power play points with 118 than Shatty's 113. That player is named Erik Karlsson.

i dont follow you here...

he isnt signing for that cheap and that short term, so whats your point?

This is the key. They either grab Shattenkirk this year, or just consider this a one year "retool". Pick up a nice asset in next years draft and make some splashes in next years deep UFA market. All wasting another year of our players

So bite the bullet for a year... tying yourself up for 7 years of shatty just cause the ufa options for THIS offseason suck is a terrible reason to sign a guy long term.

To be honest, I feel this season Skjei will have us all not missing Shatty in the slightest.

Perhaps to lick his balls? Haha

Shatty has a skill set the rangers may not have right now or in the future. Do you pay for it now or later or hope day becomes that. Sjkei is only one man and you do need to have other options back there

I think the Italian Stallion will work out just fine here...as long as he doesn't get arrested or his a$$ kicked in a Manhattan nightclub for opening his mouth or using his Twitter account

I am pretty much on the record on being someone who is a NOT a Trump supporter

let me tell you, I'd sign up for Trump to be president for 40 years if it guaranteed a Ranger Stanley Cup

I don't give a rats ass about DeAngelo's political leanings

As long as he plays well I don't care what he does in his private life. Just don't be an idiot with your social media and the Rangers won't care either.

Been reading all of the pros and cons here on Joe Thornton. Just one question:

Does anybody even know if he can pass a physical right now? In order for him to be signed to a FA contract ( whether its 1 or 2 or 3 seasons ) he will have to see the team doctor first. He just had MAJOR surgery on that 38 year old knee. And lets be clear, its a high mileage knee with lots of wear and tear on it.
All of you make good points here, I'm just not sure the guy can WALK without a limp now, never mind SKATE...........

Happy to see you're back to you're old self, Johnny.

Feel it would be appropriate with a "suck my balls" soon
