if they signed Radulov for free, then they'd be free to trade one of the current wingers for assets, just spitballin' there though

Not the way Pittsburgh, and Edmonton did it though.
They completely canned it for those reasons alone.

We had what 3 years where the cap barely moved, so I'm not sure about that.
Like he can't just take $10m a year and leave some on the table for the rest of the lineup? As much as I, (and everyone else), dislike "Crysby", at least he understood he couldn't win all by himself.

I like Crosby.
Of course, he does have a habit of playing quite well with a Canada jersey on. That might have something to do with it. But, I also thinks he takes more abuse on the ice than anyone else has in a generation. I'd get pissed too.

man, the Oilers stepped in poop with McDavid, to screw up that many #1 overall picks and to still get him handed in their lap

I think I'm behind in my thinking a few seasons, but the trend shows we could have a few years where it stagnates.
There's no guarantee it will continue in the upward trend the way it has.
Man, I must have been asleep for a few seasons when it comes to the cap.

Yeah I'm not saying there is any guarantee, but over time the cap has gone up considerably. In the last 10 years it's gone up about $25M. Obviously that won't matter for McDavid's 8 year deal, but I think if we see a slight uptick in acceleration over the next, say, 5 years that it's not unreasonable to think that the cap may rise another $8M-$10M. Oilers are betting on it, but of course nothing is guaranteed.

I just think that with the addition of a new team and an increase in revenue that the league is going to let the teams spend more money.

All for it! Although I'm partial to Quebec, (ridiculous they don't have a team), the way they bleed hockey! The expansion draft was a lot of fun for a hockey fan, even though we lost a good player.
Was looking back when the WHA folded, and the 4 new teams came in with current rosters, (Edmonton, Quebec, Winnipeg, & Hartford). They were only allowed to protect 2 goalies, and 2 skaters, total of 4 players.
