Jan Levine: Re-tooling on the fly, how that's defined will determine Rangers' direction
GM Jeff Gorton to be the one that provides that definition - airjan23
Jan, thanks the terrific recap.
I'm convinced the Rangers had no intention of keeping that 7th pick, acquired in the Stepan deal.
I'm also convinced they had a deal in which that pick and maybe 21st also were involved, but did not materialize at the 11th hour.
Now what? I find it hard to believe they're not going to try to sign Shatty. It makes to much sense. He's a RH shot, can help the PP, and will play top 4 minutes.
The whole Washington thing is fairly clear, many players struggle when changing teams, especially at the deadline, coupled with the notion he probably didn't want to be there in the 1st place. |

Thanks Jan, that's a lot to chew on.
Jumbo brings a lot to the team, both leadership wise and on the ice. And that beard!
No way I would give him 3 years at his age AND coming off knee surgery. One year deal, then we talk.
So, I guess you are Anti-Niemi? |

Considering how man shots you've taken at Jan, I loathe myself for agreeing with you on Thornton. Boyle is the ideal 4c. - tomburton99
If he wasn't so determined to get a 3C role, he would probably still play 4C for us. Not sure if he want to come back to play 10 minutes a night when that was the reason he left in the first place.

Because I want new young blood, not slow weak retreads for the 4th line.
Come on man, I figured you would be on board with this. You were all about blowing up the D and getting some younger guys in there |

What he said. Boyle does bring excellent PK and faceoff ability but I would like to find that elsewhere.
Justin Williams perhaps? Though he is a little older than I would like. I just want to try someone new. I certainly won't be booing Boyle if he comes back but let's cross that unfortunate bridge when the time comes. |

Don't care about Vecchione. With the Forwards the flyers have it will be tough for him to make an impact. They were gifted Patrick in the lotto. Nothing you can do. They just need Sanhiem to pan and they'll be decent in a hurry. - tomburton99
that is the interesting part of it all though. the way the NHL is set up, it helps to suck in order to succeed later. rebuilding on the fly is noble and all, but is it effective? we will see. It certainly helps to get lucky and hit on a 2.2% chance. The rangers are at least a bit better set up to "rebuild on the fly" compared to the flyers. |
