It's just a guess based on current availability and trends in salaries. He's going to cash in. - JRR1285
I agree, he will get 4M+ and probably 3 years - maybe 4. |

I like the picks but I would not be upset if one was turned into say... Trouba? All depends on what(who) else might be packaged with those picks. |

I think it is very hard to say what the Rangers should do, because I am not quite sure of the direction. Are they trying to compete this year or not? If they aren't, I don't want Shattenkirk. If they are, I am not in love with him, but I would understand signing him. - Pete V
They have a good thing going imo. Granted it hasn't won the cup but, they are always good relevant and adding young pieces in some way all the time. The idea the front office is clueless, mentioned here a lot and I'm sure other places, is just not true. The only thing is they're never really really bad to get the top flight prospects, which can be a little annoying when other teams do. I do think they have a good direction and I've had faith in the front office for a number of years (big Sather guy for instance) but I think I'm in the minority with that. It just hasn't fully materialized to the ultimate but they sure as hell have tried and they should get credit for it, not laughed at like they do. |

I don't disagree, TJ. All I was really saying is that I am not entirely sure what direction they want to go in for next year. Do they want to try to compete? Or is it a retool type year? That would effect the way I view what UFA's they should or shouldn't sign, and what moves they should or shouldn't make.

agree with all this! you either stay competitive & draft adding pieces here and there, or you do like the stupid flyers & tell the season ticket holders "we will suck another 4 years in our attempt to become the 1985 Oilers, thank you for your continuing stepford support".
sorry I'm cynical as I was a 40 plus year flyer fan sick of the stupid culture change every 5 years, and dumb moves. |

Would having Zib & Hayes at 1-2, be as similar to say Stepan, and Dubinsky? - puckhead17
No...therefore, go trade for Dubinsky |

I'm not sure the Rangers will know until they talk to FA's and see who's willing to sign for what? There's probably a lot of IF player A can be signed for X, then ..... |

It seems like people say every year, well this is the year the rangers fall off a cliff or whatever...and it doesn't happen. East is usually winnable especially this year which made it that much more painful. Tronna is gonna be the team to beat soon enough tho.. I've seen a lot of philly love and they don't even have a goalie haha. Washington is in shambles and Pitt is older. Cbj is scary for sure. But after that who is scary? They could still contend with this current roster with some more tweaking. I like the change they appear to be making with leadership, it has been a bugaboo imo |

they had Bobrovsky but he wasn't good enough
moved him for Bryzgalov, then bought him out.
Mason busted his ass for 3 years behind a poor D, yet wasn't good enough to start the outdoor game, or be considered for a contract.
Sorry, the good things they are doing that has everyone cheering I didn't have patience for.
edit. sorry the flyers had me in therapy. |

Hmmm...another going to Sunny Florida where there are no state taxes?
http://www.tsn.ca/report-...ct-d-shattenkirk-1.790089 - mames11
Hopefully he goes there and we avoid that mistake. We could see a massive shift if we traded McD for say.....Mackinnon? McD is 28 with 2 years left on his deal. At 30 he's going to want a huge contract and already has had multiple shoulder injuries, concussion etc. |
|
|
|
Wasn't there a supposed offer for him from the lightning last year? - mdw7413
He turned down 7 years 6 million per from someone, might be TBL. |

Colorado seems absolutely impossible to make trades with at this point |

I will believe they are really serious when ai see it happen. I think they dangle someone hoping to get a crazy overpayment offer. If not they keep the guy. They did this to Duchene last season when he was slumping. |

If it was Tampa, then I'd say stay away from signing him. That $6M/per for 7 years is more like $6.5 here in NY. Unless Shatty give NYR a discount, it'll take $7.5 or more to sign him. No thanks. You will not be able to trade that contract if he doesn't pan out here after the first few years.
Resign Smith for four years, give the Italian Stallion a true shot, and sign an Eminger-type 7th d-man.

I've always more or less expected Thornton to re-sign in SJ. But I've also heard from a source that LA Kings consider Joe to be a "priority." |

PP is so bad, I think they roll with 5 forwards on it next season on the top unit--McD
Second PP unit would be Skjei and either DA/Holden/Smith (if you go two d-men there)
MdC / Holden
Skjei / Smith
Staal / DA
Klein as 7th man if he doesn't retire. I'd give that Graves kid a shot, too.

Maybe Skjei? I think Skjei and Smith make a great 2nd pair. Maybe Smith could play with McD? Skjei and Deangelo. Holden and Day/Staal? |

I could be way off base and wrong, but I do not think Shatty will be signing with the NY Rangers |
