When the Habs were a winning organization some 30 years ago, they would have found the head scout hanging from the rafters at the old Forum if his record looked anything like Timmins' & cie. - Garfield512
pre-lock out and the first 2-3 years after there wasn't as much of an emphasis on drafting. Ya it was important, but it's different when you could just spend

EDIT: This organization has lost it's way a long time ago ... the fact that we haven't had a #1 center in 20 years illustrates this fact perfectly. - Garfield512
NASH traded Jones to get their #1C Johansen.
MB traded Sergachev to get Drouin... the little (frank)er better play center. |

Very true ... but it's no excuse to keep a team of scouts that have clearly shown they don't know what they're doing.
Scouting and drafting are now more important than ever, if you suck at it your team will suffer a lot more (like we are now) from it than in the past as you can no longer buy yourself out of a bind.
EDIT: I predict we will get passed in the standings by many teams very soon ... our core players are only getting older (not better) and there's no visible succession on the horizon. All we're doing at this point is plugging holes in the lineup (with our draft picks of all things!). |

meh. I find you a bit harsh.
Price, Patch, both Gally, Drouin, Lekhonen... they still have a good core reasonably young. getting ride of Emelin was a good thing. losing Plek will help even more. |

Grigorenko wasn't qualified by Colorado.
It happens all around the league |

They're not that far.
Assuming Markov and Radulov do not re-up, the only russian on the payroll would be Sherback. Baby steps! |

I'd take a shot on him or preferably Yakupov for 1 year, $1.5M max. Whats the worst that could happen? |

I think Russians get an unfair rep. Remember the good old days of Danny Markov and Dmitri Mironov?
Markov gave you many good years, he's just old now. |

Methot's stay with the Vegas Golden Knights lasted five days. Vegas traded the defenceman to the Dallas Stars on Monday In return for goalie Dylan Ferguson and a 2020 second-round pick.

Not sure why Grigorenko would even be considered. He's had many chances to produce and has failed to do so. Yakupov might also be a stretch but he's been on teams where he wasn't been the guy, so signing him might be a bit more logical. I said a bit... not by much. In both cases, PTO's are in order. Any team actually giving them guaranteed NHL contracts should be thanked for their services. |

Good for Dallas. This is the type of player they need and they gave up nothing to acquire him. I'd be real interested what Ottawa offered pre and post draft, also what other team he refused to go to, not to mention what said team was offering. |
