I'd rather be wrong and the poop eater of the thread. No problem from me if that were to happen. The Rangers track record isn't so great this type of situation though.

Ok, just seems like its not a very fun way going through life, always thinking the worst.

I still think this is the opposite of what they do. McIlrath Jessiman, etc. tall, slow projects. Andersson most NHL ready in the draft according to your experts, and very good skater.

One item I would like to bring up that has not been discussed here much is the acquisition of DeAngelo. Yes, he has proven in recent past to be immature, but nobody is talking about his ON-ICE performance. This is a RH defensemen that is young, cost controlled on a cheap contract and he will be given the opportunity to be QB on our first PP unit. Rangers will probably use him on third pairing at even strength. He is still young enough to be coached up in his deficiencies too!

Tommy - think I covered DeAngelo in the trade blog. Like all, I preferred Chychrun, but knew it was a pipe dream. Unsure he QB the first PP, especially right away, and the character issues are concerning.

The fact that he struggles actually playing defense is a bit concerning to. You can't deny his offensive game but he is a major project in his own end

I agree that it is a plus he is a good skater. They did say he didn't have a lot of upside. He'd be good, but unsure if ever great.

This. And it's also exactly why Shatty is a 7 year mistake.

You think anyone in this draft is going to be great?

That's a big thing, no guarantee anyone after 4 will be great IMO. Yea others may have higher ceilings based on potential but no clue where that leads 3-4 years from now. Andersson has the highest percentage of being a regular out of any of those prospects, and still has room to show more potential. No one knows where his game can go 3-4 years from now as well.

You guys think the Rangers went with Andersson because he could be NHL ready today? Seems like a safer pick, and he's already got a solid build and frame. Maybe they went with him to immediately replenish our center depth

That had to play a role. I think the Rangers love his overall game. He isn't afraid to get dirty and play both ends of the ice. Also he is very good skater who is very smart. Traits the Rangers love

Wouldn't be surprised to see him challenge for a spot in camp

Pick number 21 as well, I always forget his name. Gordie Clark was saying watch out for him as well. He played against men the last 2 years as well.

You see the one prospect they took Barron I think, tries to play like Kreider

At 7 you better make sure you grab a player that has to potential to be great.

I have to deal with Hayes's playoff performace after writing that piece in the players tribune.

Even though this draft there was considered "no exceptional talent"?

He was the only selection the Rangers made that I liked.

But like why can't Andersson be great? Cause some rankings said he wouldn't?

Exceptional and great are not the same. I never expected anybody to come close Mcdavid or Matthews.
